Objectives | Italian teams in Europe | 2011/12
In Champions League, we have 4 teams participating:
-> Milan (groupstage)
-> Inter (groupstage)
-> Napoli (groupstage)
-> Udinese (play-off round)
In Europa League, we have 2 teams participating:
-> Roma
-> Lazio
So what should the teams aim for next season?
-> Milan (groupstage)
-> Inter (groupstage)
-> Napoli (groupstage)
-> Udinese (play-off round)
In Europa League, we have 2 teams participating:
-> Roma
-> Lazio
So what should the teams aim for next season?

Re: Objectives | Italian teams in Europe | 2011/12
I think....
- Inter objective should be minimum a semifinal place (if moratti strenghthens with quality players then it should be the final that inter should aim for)
- milan should at least aim for a quarterfinal/semifinal place
- napoli = second round, or even quarterfinal
- udinese = 3rd place in groups or even second round
-----------------------------
roma should aim for winning the europa league next year
lazio should at least fight for a quarterfinal or even a semifinal.

We must maintain a semi-final finish, or better. Because I don't view any of the other teams doing that.

Both Milanese clubs are aiming to win it all, as they should be.
Napoli should aim for knockouts, and udinese should play like they have nothing to lose
Lazio and Roma should, but won't, aim to win europa

Palermo is in the Europa League too since they were the finalists in the Coppa Italia which they lost to Inter, aren't they?

We won't settle for the knock-out round... that would be ridiculous.

Milan - Round of 16 exit..once again. Same old problems...
Inter - Quarters/Semis
Napoli - Will not get through the group stages. Their coefficient is very low, so they'll be in a tough group.
Udinese - Won't qualify for group stage, and will end up in EL, like Sampdoria. You also have to consider the fact that they will draw one of the big guns( Arsenal,Bayern Munich, or Lyon..)

Re: Objectives | Italian teams in Europe | 2011/12
Objectives?
Derby Della Madonnina final in the Champions League, Derby Della Capitale in the Europe League final.
The minimum stage each team should aim to reach?
Milan: Quarterfinals, Semis if we get a good run
Inter: Quarterfinals
Napoli: Round of 16
Udinese: Third spot in the Group Stages
Roma: Semifinals
Lazio: Quarterfinals
Palermo: Round of 16
Udinese: Round of 16
Lazio and Palermo will probably forfeit the Europa League though I expect Enrique to be more ambitious with Roma. Guidolin's ability as a coach might sneak Udinese through one round further than they might deserve however they're tearing apart their squad.

I will wait till the end of the transfer window to make my predictions. Remember, we could see a Udinese without Zapata, Inler, Asamoah, Sanchez...

No. We will go further than the round of 16. We have less problems than Inter. Plain and simple.

Re: Objectives | Italian teams in Europe | 2011/12
Objective, eh!!!
Milan: SF
Inter: SF
Napoli: Last 16
Udinese: to qualify
Roma: QF
Lazio: Last 32
Palermo: Last 16
But Italian teams are notorious in neglecting EL, so I wont be surprised if they have an agenda to exit ASAP. Napoli too might think they don't have much prospect and rather focus on qualifying for next years CL.

Re: Objectives | Italian teams in Europe | 2011/12
Milan and Inter should both be aiming high and set the semi-finals as their objective. Of course depending on how they re-enforce their teams, they could have the potential to go for the win, but when you get to the latter stages of the CL, anything can happen and the difference is often very slight, so a semi-final appearance will definitely be good enough. Napoli will have a more difficult time handling both domestic and European competitions, so I think they'll be aiming to make it out of the group stage. They have the potential to maybe even win in their round of 16 tie depending on their opponent, but I think making it out of the group is a realistic objective. Udinese's objective? Well, that depends on how badly they'll blow up their team this summer. If they keep their most important players, they might hope to get a good group and make it past the group stage. If not, then just making it past their qualification and putting up a fight will be good enough.
As for the EL, Roma, Lazio and Palermo all have the quality to mount a serious challenge. However, seeing as how Italy is losing some of their European competition spots, I think they'll focus more on doing well in the league. I don't see Palermo making it very far, though their real objective should be making it to the quarter finals. Roma and Lazio will probably have a little more ambition with regards to this competition and their objective may very well be to go all the way to the final (or at least that's what they should be doing).
