The Most Ridiculous Statement in the History of Ridiculous Statements
FIGC President Giancarlo Abete insists “Italian football is clean and does not need to be revolutionised by this scandal.”
Serie A, B and Lega Pro games were highlighted due to unusual betting patterns, which prompted an investigation into possible match-fixing.
“It’s not an issue of acting harshly to set an example, but rather to ensure the rules are respected,” said the Federation chief.
“The games under investigation are not very important, but highlight a new concept of match-fixing that is no longer tied to the result as much as making certain individuals richer.
“We must also have the ability to see the glass half-full. Italian football is primarily clean and does not need to be revolutionised by a few individuals in this scandal.
“Having said that, we will increase the penalties for those who do not report attempted corruption.”
If I could give you my eyes to open to you the world I would...

Re: The Most Ridiculous Statement in the History of Ridiculous Statements
No big money football is clean, but because of Calciopoli, the Italian game is policed at a higher level than other leagues and nothing is left hidden.
Compare that to the German betting scandal. There was very little press about it (even on goal.com) about it. The German FA representatives essentially denied instead of admitting that there were anomalies in "unimportant" games as Abete did.
"On Thursday Harald Stenger, spokesman for the German Football Federation (DFB), said: "The UEFA and DFB early warning system for the overseeing of the betting markets had not given any indications of match-fixing in Germany."
However, on Friday the prosecutors said that 32 games in Germany alone are suspected of having been fixed. There are indications that four games in the second league, three from the third league and 18 from regional leagues are tainted, as well as matches in the youth leagues and international competitions. Is this a reply to my post? Because we are talking about two different things. I am saying that Abete is coming across as skeptical and rather silly with these comments. What your saying is that no major football league is clean. Not the same...
