Joke of a decision.
Lescott is free for 3 times worse than the Balotelli decision.

Exactly what I thought. The fact that Balotelli's "stamp" is such a hot topic proves that the decision is a close one. As some pundits were saying yesterday, it would've been hard to argue with the decision to give a red card immediately after the incident. However, it's equally as easy to give Balotelli the benefit of the doubt given the speed of the incident and the clumsy nature of the supposed "stamp." The man was off balance and falling. Did he alter the trajectory of his foot in order to come in contact with Parker's head? No one will ever definitively know. The thing that gets me is Balotelli's contrite reaction to the entire thing.
My take on the incident is that Balotelli was indeed falling over, and does indeed change his foot trajectory to come in contact with Parker, much in the same way a player trails a leg in order to draw a challenge. In other words, do I believe he intended to contact Parker: yes. Do I believe he was intentionally trying to stamp on his head: no. If you watch the footage, you can assume he knows where Parker is from the contact made by the left leg. However, by not looking down, it's difficult to assert that he know's he is so close to Parker's head. I contend that he was not trying to stamp on Parker as much as draw the foul and free kick.
That said, he did contact Parker's head in a downward "stamping" motion after changing the trajectory of his foot. This act, regardless of the intended result (to draw the foul or to injure), is worthy of a Red card. I cannot blame Webb for missing it, though, as the play had already moved away when Balotelli stepped on Parker. He made the call that there was no initial foul and subsequently followed the ball and the flow of play. If anything, the linesmen failed to catch the resulting actions.
In other news, it seems that Man City is not going to appeal the ban.
