He let Lahm go time and time again.

Coentrao was horrible, but he got zero help.

Ronaldo is the best Madrid player, and he shows it in most matches, Bayern came with a strategy to frustrate the best Madrid players, first by "stealing" the boots of Ronaldo and his team-mates before the start of the match, and fouling him persistently in the match to which Mr. Webb turned a blind eye.

The main problem in this game was that Alonso had an off day, which meant Ronaldo could not see as much of the ball as he wanted, Coentrao also offered very little going forward, meaning Ronaldo had to consistently try ti beat at least two Bayern players at a go.

Which is a sharp contrast from the outlets Marcelo provides when he bomb down the wings, Madrid lost the first leg, but have as big a chance as Bayern of qualifying to the final if we up our game at home. Especially with the away goal.

Alonso didnt have an off day, he was being pressed and outplayed in the midfield by an excellent Kroos on the night. It doesnt help that he is so slow he can barely move around.

If the long balls cant get to him, then it's his job to come deep and collect the ball, he did little of that. When he got the ball he got consistently beaten on both side.

He was never helping Coentrao who was in tough situations against Robben and Lham, and never managed to pinned down Lham on his right side.

The game is played at both ends, and he failed at both. It's not dramatic but it has to be said.

Big games, your best player/s have to find a way to be effective because they arent going to get chance after chance like you would against weaker teams.

The worst thing is the utter uninvolvement in the game, and its not like he is a number 9 so he cant complain about service. He is very free to go get it.

But none of this is a new thing really. Madrid will need him in the 2nd leg, or the same people who were down on him after the Barca game will surely be back questioning him.

This is why I think Messi is better than Ronaldo. He simply provides a lot more when his team have the ball, unlike Ronaldo.

The way he just picks the ball up deep, links up with others, roams around the pitch, creates attacks, links up play, dribbling etc.

For the record, since i made this thread, Ronaldo has improved his performance dramatically. The Bernabeu booing did him a lot of good.

In the "Ronald'o is the most complete player" nonsense I always bring up how he refuses to play any defense whatsoever or help anyone out when they blow an assignment and the Ronaldo fan boys just totally ignore it and say well he's great at heading the ball. I constantly say it's 50% of the game so how can he be complete and no one ever answers the only person to agree is Nick.

Then someone on here says well Xabi and Coentrao were not doing there jobs so he had to go against two defenders alot LOL. News flash, that is Messi every single play, he is double and triple teamed everywhere he goes. He beats two defenders usually at the beginning of his moves and assists, there is no wasted motion in Messi's game and if he needs to track back and pick the ball up at midfield and turn provider instead of goal scorer he will do that too something Ronaldo is way too selfish to even think of.

This game right here is the whole reason we tell you people Messi is better and it's not really close and the numbers don't tell the whole story. You can't mark him out of the game with one or two players and if he's not scoring he's doing 10 other things well including winning the ball back for his team.

Ronaldo is a wonderful player but he has a major problem against elite teams, there is no arguing this. Atletico MAdrid is not an elite team.

Well I think there is a direct corralation between level of team and his performance, as in, the worse the team the better he does.

Against minnows, he probably 2nd best in the world.

Against mid level teams, probably top 5.

Against elite...well, you have seen.

lol , he didnt have a terrible game lol. after we scored the goal we sort of shut shop subbing di maria , ozi, bringing on granero and marcelo.. he didnt get enough of the ball, was quite decent when he did get the ball specially on the left side...
