"Strikers should be selfish" - right or wrong?
I think this is good for the striker but not for the team. so it's wrong.

Strikers should be arrogant, not selfish.

It's all about decision making, not selfishness.

Re: "Strikers should be selfish" - right or wrong?
It's a catch 22. A striker can be selfish, score and be praised for having a killer instinct. If he misses, then he's selfish and should have passed to a more open team mate.
All you really need is to avoid the two extremes. A striker who's constantly shooting from distance or tight angles when he's got available team mates in better positions is bad for the team because it's inefficient. Equally, a striker who never takes shots and always looks to pass to a team mate isn't good for the team either.

No, not at all. But if there is one position where they should not be turning down good shooting chances, its the striker position.
You dont want a striker who looking for teammates to the detriment of their own, because you would imagine that they are in the team because of their finishing or goalscoring ability.
I think each situation on the pitch is different and nearly every situation there is a right and wrong thing to do. The results should not outweigh the decision either, because the process is more important to getting it right more often than not.

They should keep passing to each other and not be selfish. Just continue to pass for the full 90 mins and nobody should take a shot as it's taking chances away from other team members

Re: "Strikers should be selfish" - right or wrong?
Whatever is best for the team imo. In some teams, the striker is the most talented finisher by far... so if he gets a chance at goal, he needs to take it. On other teams, you have several talented scorers... in this scenario, the striker in question needs to show vision to pick and choose the best chances.
I don't consider any of these selfish behavior because you're doing what's best for the team.
That's my huge criticism of CR7 btw... he acts as if he's playing for Swansea lol. When you have that much talent on the pitch, there's no excuse for him to behave like he does.

It depends. If there are teammates on a better position to score than him then he should pass. If there is someone in a similar or worse position to score, then he should not. I agree with Sports and Jay on how the talent of the teammate matters and at the end of they day it's a catch 22 situation.

This - it's okay for strikers to be selfish so long as they don't ignore teammates in clear shooting positions.futbol wrote:It's all about decision making, not selfishness.

Re: "Strikers should be selfish" - right or wrong?
The standards for selfishness are different for strikers than other positions. What's selfish for a winger normally isn't for a striker IMO... So to an extent id say strikers are more selfish than other positions but they still need to provide and look out for teammates

It depends...
you have to know
1- when to be selfish "you're in a better position to score than your teammates"
AND
2- when to pass "your teammates are in better position to finish"!

The majority of the time they should. However if a teammate is in a better position, then they shoulder consider if passing would be a better option. However overall they should be selfish.

If they're intelligent enough then they'll know when to take the ball on and shoot or set someone else up.
The word 'selfish' indicates an unwillingness to share and in football, that's only a negative if your not sharing is benefiting the team.

This thread was intentionally created for hurting CR7 fans . How can you not like goalaldo . Its an honour to see him taking half of the team shots from incredible ankles and watching the ball fly above the post . His intelligence and team play lets him takes shots when keeper and defenders is closing in him even tough there is teammate with open goal post . his great goals have led real madrid to so many great titles this season

Dude. Leave the dude be. Seriously wtf is wrong with soke of you
I actually agree with sports when it comes to our most recent games. He is playing well but he needs to pass in the final third more often. However his decision making is not always bad (see man city game)
