Real Madrid confirm Cristiano Ronaldo & Jose Mourinho not attending Fifa Ballon d'Or gala
Real Madrid have confirmed in an official statement that coach Jose Mourinho and attacker Cristiano Ronaldo will not be attending next week's 2011 Fifa Ballon d'Or Gala in Switzerland as they have obligations with Los Blancos.
The gala takes place on Monday January 9 in Zurich’s Kongresshaus, but Madrid have a Copa del Rey game away to Malaga the next day and the duo do not want to disrupt their preparations for the match.
Therefore, Mourinho and Cristiano Ronaldo have made the decision not to travel to Switzerland for the star-studded event.
"No Real Madrid players or any of the coaching staff will be attending the Ballon d'Or because of Tuesday's game against Malaga," a club spokesman told Goal.com. "Zinedine Zidane and Emilio Butragueno will represent the club [at the gala]."
Cristiano Ronaldo faces competition from Barcelona duo Lionel Messi and Xavi for the prestigious individual trophy, while Mourinho is nominated for the title of Coach of the Year together with Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson and Barcelona's Pep Guardiola.
Madrid lead Malaga 3-2 from the first leg of their Copa del Rey last-16 clash.

TBf we're sending Zidane and El Buitre they're probably still good enough to be nominated for the award if they were still playing
As for the team of the year photo we'll send cardboard cut outs of any of our players who make it.

Ronaldo will be bunking with Kaka/Marcelo. We'll be in Malaga the day before the game.
