Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
Few things infuriate me more than seeing Alves try to score and send them yet again to the row 80...

Re: Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
Because he scored 2 long range free-kicks the first season.

Re: Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
Becouse he broke Arsenal's GK's fingers from free kick
Messi should take every goal-chance free kicks.
Alves, Xavi... meh... even Villa and Afellay are better than those two.
Xavi's shooting on goal from free kicks is zero.

Xavi, Messi and Villa are more accurate with free kicks than him imo.

Re: Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
He is still allowed to take them in the hope he takes them more like he does for Brazil, for some reason he is alot better at them for them.
But you know, the long distance ones I dont mind him taking, though he never scores. Because nobody else can.
I would like to see Villa taking more though, Xavi less.
Xavi is a passer, he is drilled into passing it a weight which the other player can control, for free kicks you cant have that mindset.

Re: Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
Messi's improvement in this area means that I'd rather him take any short to medium length attempts, especially on the right side of the pitch.
But long-range I'd much rather the ball get passed to a team-mate rather than trying for a 1% chance with Alves.

Sometimes though Alf, when your say 35m out, teams dont let you take quick free kicks short, so its harder to just pass to a teammate. Sure its possible, but teams are more likely to get in the way or kick it away. Just not let Barca do it so close to goal.
However, 35m is a distance that is still too far for Messi, so if someone has to shot it, it has to be Alves because we got nobody else.

Re: Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
I'd imagine the chances of keeping possession and creating a goal-scoring chance are higher just passing it though rather than going for goal, and free-kicks usually pull a lot of players near the box so even some back-passes could be used to create space.

True dani. D.Alves won the Confed 2009 semi final for Brazil against South Africa coming off the bench and scoring a great free kick. Also very good points about Xavi.
Re: Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
i think theres nobody more accurate than messi there. from 35-40m they need to pass not kick

Goalie is pathetic, I would of had a fair chance of saving that.

Re: Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
We need to sign Alex from Chelsea, we need a CB and his free kicks from distance are incredible.
When I say need Alex, I am not being literal, but I would take him for sure.

Re: Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
Messi & Villa should take the Free-kicks from now on...
NO ALVES!!
Xavi? don't know!
btw what about Afellay? he has great powerful shots fom outside the box.. maybe we should give him chance especially long range free-kicks (25-35M)!

Good idea dani - kind of like killing two birds with one stone and he would not even be difficult to get at the moment. Also I am quite sure he would want this move.

Again not a bad idea at all. They desperately need CBs.
Re: Why is Alves allowed to take free kicks?
messi/villa should take the short range FK's. Afellay with the long range ones.

Messi should take the short ones from the right, Villa the short ones from the left, and Xavi curling it in or playing it short on the long ones.
