Re: Rumour Mill
Me thinks he should get a 2-3 year contract. It'll be an insult to Robbie to give him a 1 year contract.

Exactly. If they're gonna give it to him, give it to him because you believe in what he can do for us long-term, not as some trial to see if he can bring home major silverware in one season and boot him out if he doesn't.
God this board we have is insufferable sometimes

Re: Rumour Mill
If anything we have learned is that we should trust the board, even though it is maddening at times.
Firing AVB was unpopular, guess what they were right. We would have finished outside of the top four and without a CL.
I hope we keep RDM, but i am not going to lie i prefer Pep. I trust him more to utilize the attacking talents we are signing.
In Roman we trust.

I was honestly glad the change was made although I was skeptical of RDM(he proved me wrong).

Nah, I've gotten over it.....but only just
As I said at the time, it was a necessary decision because the situation was too far gone by that time and things were getting worse by the week. The problem, though, was that it never should have been allowed to get to that state in the first place. Lack of support from the top from the onset played the biggest part in his downfall.
But hey, that's ancient history now, right?

Guys, Fellaini-Modric. Who do you prefer?(saw a FanShot on WAGNH and decided to ask you all).

And sorry, I refuse to say that firing AVB has somehow vindicated the board even after all their many horrible managerial decisions of the past.
Yes, in the short-term, we gained huge success from their decision. But long-term, we're no better off now than we were 12 months ago. The job that awaited AVB this exact time last year is still there - and possibly to an even greater extent - now, waiting to be started all over again by the next full-time appointee.
(Okay, here I go with my AVB sympathetics yet again. Better stop now before it gets out of hand )

Re: Rumour Mill
Wow lots of posts, first KDB in EPl would be awesome!
Second, Give Robbie the Job! Also, I doubt he is pissed because all of his press confrences pointed to him believing he won't get it. Third, fire Steve Clarke as our assistant!
And I would rather have Fellaini than Modric. Due to not needing the creativity as much now and Fellaini is very good defencively.

Hmm, not sure on that one. The financial aspect alone makes Fellaini more desirable, but you have to wonder if he weren't Belgian, would we be going after him in the first place? I know it sounds dumb, but it almost feels like we're starting to intentionally seek out Belgian players now that we've got a decent contingent of them already at the club.
Again, it's tough. On one hand, Modric gives you that deep-lying creative link between the midfield and front players that we've been sorely missing. And on the other, Fellaini gives that extra bit of defensive contribution the team (with all our new signings in it) appears, on paper, to be lacking, which I'm not sure Modric does quite as much. Really close call for me.

Re: Rumour Mill
lol I think he meant hire
Between Fellaini and Modric I'd take the former. Lampard is still here, and with Hazard and Mata, I think we have enough creativity.
If Mereiles and Essien are staying, then I doubt we'd go for Fellaini either, although I'd take the Belgian over the other two

Re: Rumour Mill
I would take Modric over Fellaini based on quality and need, but Spuds are asking for too much.
40m for a soon to be 27 year old is too much. Max 25m

It's hard. While Mikel and Lampard can play the double pivot I think we need somebody who can "run" the game for us like Modric as you said though he's not worth the asking price.

Re: Rumour Mill
Haven't heard any rumours of that. When AVB just got fired, there were rumours that he wanted out.....but since he won the FA Cup and CL, I haven't heard anything related to that.mtfootball wrote:What about Meireles? Is he getting sold?

Someone posted this on WAGNH:
Kakuta had an interview and said malouda might be going. He also said he wont go out on loan next year. He could also go permantly. But he said he wants to play at chelsea and is confident he can get a starting spot due to him getting more physical.

Lille, Twente, Hoffenheim & Wolfsburg have all contacted Chelsea about a potential De Bruyne loan.

Hmm, seems alot of clubs really see something in him. Even still, if the Saints possibility is a real one, I'd prefer he go there. At 21, he's feasibly not far away from coming into our squad if he shows enough quality. Loaning him to a foreign club, and then again the year after to a PL club to get the feel of the English game seems a little much at his age. I'd rather just cut out the middleman and send him to St. Mary's.
