Messi will and deserves to win it for 2011. Next year though, I genuinely reckon CR7 will win it, due to the successes that our team will have, and himself individually. But last year, Messi definitely did not deserve to win it. The criteria for the award "randomly" changed to benefit Messi instead of Sneijder.

Messi deserves it as he won the CL, but looking back to Sneijder case (Won the triplete, WC final, WC scorer) and how he didn't even get into the top 3, i can say that CR and Messi have equal chance to win it.
