Hardly surprising, It was unlikely a player as much a mainstay in the side as Oscar was going to be asked to give up his number so Didier could have his old one, so they gave him his other old one by taking it from a far less important player instead.

Mourinho re-signing Drogba seems like a sentimental decision to me. I know stats don't tell nearly everything, but in his last season with Chelsea, 11-12, Drogba scored 5 goals in 24 PL apps (according to Wiki). 13 goals in 35 apps in all comps, which is a bit better. But he's now three years older.

Anyway, it makes for a good story, Drogba returning to Chelsea, so from an objective point of view I kinda like the signing for its sentimental value. It will be a curious detail in this season.

We would never have have signed him had he not been at the club before, but it's not purely a sentimental decision.

Mourinho, give up a valuable squad space just for emotion? Nah.
