Not really much luxury, since if Gomez is injured there's Klose, but apart from that Germany have no strikers. Is Schurrle the 9 just because it's pretty or can he play the striker role confidently?

Well, at Leverkusen, Schürrle is mainly deployed as winger. But then, Bayer doesn't really have one true top scorer that stands out. (Kießling scored 3 so far, Schürrle, Derdiyok and Sam two goals each and 6 more players one goal each.)

The German NT eligible BL top scorers are Gomez (13 goals), Podolski (9), Reus (7), Cacau (4) and Götze (4). So I guess it is good that Klose shows top form atm.

So Klose is god.

Exactly. Sometimes they just need another chance, or a system that accomodates their changing attributes.

Just look at Raul and Klose. Both still great, yet would probably be benched at their old clubs.

Yeah nobody likes Nazio, but we sure do love us some Klose. And he's been lethal so far.

I'm a bit sorry to tell you: I've become a covert 'follower' of Lazio just because of Klose.
He is my special hero since 2001, so I can't turn on him now, especially since he finally gets the respect he deserved almost a decade too late.

I have seen Klose a few times this season, he is not getting exactly"slow" yet either. Look at Di Natale, the old man, he is still pacy, and Zanetti at 38 is sprinting like a 20 year old. So as long as you have the genes, work hard, are motivated, you can still survive at top level for a long time.

He's not slow. But he's slower than before (he was bloody fast).

Still, he's a beast. Still remember his 25 goal Bremen season were he scored from pretty much anywhere.

I really hope he will be able to conserve his form up to 2014!

Don't we all hope this secretly? I mean If you look back at German (national) Football in the 2000s who is there to honor then him, Ballack and Kahn?
To be precise: Kahn had his last glory-days up until 2004(?) Ballack took to the spotlight at about 2001/2 until 2009, finally taken over by Piggy and Lahm. But always just in the shadows of them Klose worked his ass off for Germany. Always fighting to get out of some club-inflicted 'form-crisis' just to prove again and again his critics wrong.
He almost singlehandedly saved Germany's ass a number of times.

Just to name a few:

WC 2002: goals against Cameroon and Ireland were crucial to leave the group stage
WC 2006: the most important goal, certainly the leveler against Argentina
EC 2008: important goals against Portugal and Turkey
WC-quali 2009: 1-0 against Russia (one of the most crucial goals for the NT)
WC 2010: not really the most significant goals of the tournament, but certainly very entertaining ones
(the last goal against Argentina is just pure gold too watch. The ease and 'grace' of the movement just before he smashes the ball into the back of the net, is almost comical)


To conclude this: I think he was the most important player of the 2000s for the German NT (just edging Ballack )
Certainly one big reason Germany survived their 'dark-ages' without major disgraces.

Well, Klose really needs to be appreciated more. Any player with 112 caps (only behind Loddar Matthäus at 150) and 62 goals (only behind the legendary Bomber Müller with 67) for the German NT cannot be considered anything else than a legend.

I would really wish for him to put the icing on the cake with an EC title, a WC title and the record number of goals scored at the World Cup
