Re: Todays players after 50 years - Who will be remembered?
you guys are over rating your fav players. How many players of 20 years ago do you remember without actually thinking about it ? well there's Maradona, Platini coz he's the president of EUFA, and whatever legends from your fav club and country. thats it, and that's only 20 years not 50. You'll have to keep in mind that the 16 years old of that time wont bother with the past since they'll be too busy wanking off to their "legends" the way we do it now, so from this prespective, only Messi and probably Ronaldo will survive the test of time, others simply wont

Actually I'm pretty sure every German will remember Toni Turek. And Radi even had a song made about him (again in Germany).billionmillion wrote:Yeah you know them. but majority of people here remember only Yashin from that list probablyrwo power wrote:The first guys from that time that come to my mind are of coursebillionmillion wrote:Yeah yeah before making list you ask yourself: do you remember any player from 1950-60?

BTW, practically all players of the German NT of 1954 are still well known household names in Germany. In 2003 there was a very poular movie made about the "Miracle of Berne" that memorized them and brought their heroics back to the younger public, too.
About the movie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Miracle_of_Bern
And Bert Trautmann? IMO people who don't know him shouldn't call themselves football fans. That guy was considered by Yashin as on one level with himself, and he became a legend when he played on in the Manchester City goal and secured them an important victory despite suffering a broken neck (!!) in the 75th minute. He was only not called up for Germany in 1954 because Herberger then refused to play players who weren't playing in Germany.
You can be pretty sure that the 1974 German NT will be remembered for decades to come, too. I think every serious German football fan can list you practically the whole team that won the cup in that year and probably quite some non-Germans can do that too. Practically all of them are very important figures in German football even nowadays.
BTW, the 2006 team also had a move made about them, so they will certainly not be forgotten so fast either: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deutschland._Ein_Sommerm%C3%A4rchen
Mind you, we Germans love our national team, so players who played for the NT are usually well remembered, even for decades.

Re: Todays players after 50 years - Who will be remembered?
I guess that's why in Germany we have movies about our NT heroes so that the younger generations remember them, tooBiasedMilanFan3 wrote:WE will remember these players but the younger generations won't know many
BTW, in Germany we have the so-called "3rd programmes" which are regional parts of the big FreeTV PBS ARD plus a decidated sports channel (on FreeTV, too) and there you often get repeats of classic matches of former World Cups in full length with original commentary. For example, yesterday I watched the 1970es quarter final of the World Cup in Mexico again (England 2:3 Germany AET) which was shown to honour Uwe Seeler's 75th birthday. Dunno how it is in other countries, but in Germany we hold the memories of the classic players high.
