The rule change is a reaction to the growing number of players, particularly in South America, now using so-called feints, or Paradinha, to deceive the opposition. In an announcement made at a meeting of the International Football Association Board (IFAB), chaired by FIFA president Sepp Blatter on Tuesday, those who halt just before kicking the ball will receive a yellow card for “unsporting behavior”.
Players may also be forced to retake the penalty if the ball goes into the net.
“Feinting in the run-up to take a penalty kick to confuse opponents is permitted, however feinting to kick the ball once the player has completed his run-up is now considered an infringement,” FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke told a press conference held at the organizations headquarters in Switzerland.

Re: Aren't these illegal?
I didn't see a problem with the first video, or the second example in the second video
I dont like it, but I dont think there was anything wrong with it
:10 seconds in the second video......That is definitely illegal
Then again, everythings legal in the Brazilian league I suppose...

Re: Aren't these illegal?
I they are illegal.... But in Brazil they were legal up until Neymar did it to Rogeiro Ceni and a big controversy followed. Its called a paradiha and a lot of Brazilian players do it but only in Brazil it was allowed.... Now I don't think its allowed there any more though I don't remember the resolution of the controversy I remember watching a segment on Foot Brazil about it.

I think it's well known that stopping halfway is legal. I'm surprised that people are wondering about this. Ronaldo used to do it all the time. How long have you been following football leo messi? ....

Sigh, how many more times does it have to be explained, its not about stopping half way, its about stopping AT the ball and feinting the kick.teague wrote:I think it's well known that stopping halfway is legal. You should search for FIFA laws of the game and clarify this confusion. Wikipedia may be inaccurate.

Re: Aren't these illegal?
IMO, I wouldn't allow that. It doesn't give the goalkeeper a fair chance. I believe they should not be able to stop during a run up.

Yes, they are illegal and the videos are from 1 year ago when they WERE legal. The Brazilain FA officially made it illegal after Neymar scored 2 goals doing this trick in one match.

A completed run up is when they're swinging to hit the ball. Which is what he is doing.
What kind of question is this?

Says who? See this is what I mean. We do not have any solid legal ground to support your claim that it's illegal.

A run up is when they RUN UP to the ball and when they're at the ball, they can't feint or fake kick to fool the keeper anymoreteague wrote:kick mars wrote:teague wrote:Define completed run-up and no I mean a full definition from a reliable source not fans.

Re: Aren't these illegal?
Ronaldo's is legal, neymar's is illegal.
neymar ran, stopped, ran, faked a shot, than shot.
Ronaldo ran, stopped, ran, shot.
Your not allowed to fake a shot, but your allowed to stop/stutter in your run.

Giuseppe Rossi does these all the time in Spain and in Europa League, too. They're done in similar fashion as Ronaldo's ... They stop during the run towards the ball but they don't try to feign their shot.

Re: Aren't these illegal?
I think it should be banned, if this free kick was banned then that penalty technique should be also
Re: Aren't these illegal?
ronaldo has been ordered to retake one or 2 penalty kicks because the ref suspected that he stopped before shooting...so yeah its illegal

Re: Aren't these illegal?
Yes, I think they're illegal. About that Ronaldo penalty, he stopped about a metre away from the ball to get the keeper slightly off balance but he still had to take a couple of steps to kick it. Neymar stops right behind the ball and doesn't need to take another step to kick it, so I think it's a fake kick to make the keeper dive and leave an empty net which is illegal in a penalty.
