Bundesliga breaks historical attendance record
The Bundesliga enjoyed a record-breaking 2010-11 camaign, with the average attendance reaching more than 42,000 per game for the first time in the league's history, the German Football League (DFL) have confirmed.
Attendances for last season averaged at 42,101, up from 41,905 in the previous campaign.
A total of 12.88 million supporters watched Bundesliga football over a 306 matches, up from 12.70 million, an increase of 0.7 per cent.
The amount of fans who bought season tickets also increased from 58% to 60%. The average price of a ticket is €22.75, making the Bundesliga the least expensive among Europe's top leagues.
DFL chief executive Christian Seifert told reporters: "[The Bundesliga is] an exciting competition with attractive matches, family-friendly ticket prices and modern stadiums are the key factors to success."
The fixtures for the 2011-12 Bundesliga campaign will be revealed on June 21

Re: Bundesliga breaks historical attendance record
And all that without Hertha who averaged more than 46.000 in Bundesliga 2.
Make no mistake, English clubs could pack 100.000 (if their stadiums were that big ) with German ticket prices but those cheap tickets are one of the reasons why Germans fans feel such a connection to their clubs, they feel the league has not lost it's soul yet.

It's had better Bayern times. Football is blossoming there but it doesn't necessarily mean the quality is peaking or anything (Wolfsburg *cough*)

German soccer fans are pretty insular.
They love their local teams to death and prefer local players to play for them.
They don't particularly care if someone in Malaysia or Nigeria thinks the Bundesliga is a top 3 league or not.

the bundesliga seems to be getting a lot more popular these days. a bunch more exposure means more money and better players. glad to see this as i enjoy watching german football. i usually only watch the big games but maybe next season i shall try to watch more games

If clubs there charged ticket prices on par to PL ones... that's a lot of money.

yes you are right
What the Bundesliga really needs, is more money from the TV-Pool

Re: Bundesliga breaks historical attendance record
Incredible number.
Our poor ligue 1 with villages playing in and with small stadiums are far, far behind. And it will decrease again with Lens in ligue 2 and Marseille attendance who will drop.
In France it's almost impossible to build a new stadium. But we are still trying at Lyon.

Re: Bundesliga breaks historical attendance record
Agreed. It would break the whole league spirit and that's just unthinkable. If they got more money from TV, plus the shit loads they make from marketing (it's like the money the fans save on tickets they spend on merch!), maybe German clubs could buy talent along with also growing it.
