He's maybe dived all of 10 times in his career for Barca yet all of a sudden that's the first thing in everyone's mind...

He's much better when played as a DM, but he can still do a very good job in the defence and his height helps him out as well.

Barca's CBs actually have a tougher job than people give them credit for. Because of the ball possesion and high attack rate of the club, it leaves us open for counters and the defenders have to be ready cause some of our defenders venture in to midfield all the time, making them less in numbers and in higher counter attack danger. Plus all of our attack actually starts with them first moving the ball forward

As a dm, he is worldclass. As a cb, he is average at best.

Mascherano? He is a player bandwagoner. His abilities? He is too bad in the air for a central defender and too uncreative in midfield. However, he is supreme in his defensive midfield role but modern game requires more than tackling people left and right.

Surprised at some of the comments on his ability at a CB. As Dani accurately claimed "he has CB skills on a midfielder's body". That's why he was able to perform quite well in that position even during big matches (for example, against Madrid repeatedly, & Manchester United). The 'any CB playing for Barca' attitude doesn't hold, just ask Chygrinsky.
