I wouldn't mind either, but Allen has more experience with Rodgers and with the EPL. Pre-season is one thing but Allen is proven and if he's healthy he's a hell of a midfielder. I don't think you can go wrong with either Can or Allen playing with Henderson, but I think to start Allen is more likely.

yh there are cases, which can be made for both. But i just think that Can is little more creative and better at finishing than Allen.

I don't think anyone can be worse at finishing than Allen -.-

BR should play Allen as a striker in some training matches. Although scoring goals is not his primary job, he should be able to finish whatever chances he gets, scoring at least 8-9 goals in a season.

Not as confident as you guys, Witnessed one of the best players in a LFC shirt playing in attack in my defense..

I underestimated how ready Can will be for this season. Thought it would take him a couple of years as he's only 20 but pleasantly surprised. We can definitely play double pivot with Hendo-Can.

If we do a very strctured pressing with Can and hendo, they will keep on winning the ball in the attcking positions, other scrubs in front of them have to just put the ball into the net 1-2 times

I think that you guys are getting a bit caught up in the glam of a new signing and pre-season games, and forget how good Allen was before he had little injuries. He was a beast for Swansea, and looked great for Liverpool before dealing with his issues. Just look to him at Wales (I believe there's even a video that focuses just on him against the Netherlands). As of right now Allen is still more proven and more experienced especially in the PL.

As far as a double pivot goes I think it would work with any combination of Henderson/Allen/Can to be honest. When Lallana is healthy, or when Markovic settles, I'd love to see the option used in games where Gerrard is being rested.


I would love to see the team move more towards a 4-2-3-1 with a double pivot of two tenacious midfielders who are also confident on the ball and tidy in possession like those three.

Problem with Allen is, he has no ballz to do something with the ball when he gets into those attacking positions, at least till now. He is trying hard to grow them but we will see that in this season.

Also easy to forget that he did just turn 24 despite his being a first team player since 2008. Pretty incredible that he's not in his prime and still has a ton of room to grow as a footballer. I'm happier that he puts himself in those positions and is already so mature defensively and in possession.

As things stand right now (not including Lucas) Allen is the midfielder I'd get rid of the quickest if we had a chance of getting someone like Vidal/Strootman/Pjanic etc. Hasn't improved at all in the 2 years he's been with us. Like I said in another thread his best form for us was the first 3 months when we signed him. Since then, whatever the cause (injuries etc) he's not been at all starting quality, just squad depth quality.

I would not be surprised based on how deep Coutinho's been getting the ball and with all the talk about Markovic in training plus how he's looked so far if he ended up starting because of Lallana's injury. Originally I thought maybe one of Can or Allen in midfield with Coutinho on the left but it just doesn't make sense to remove him from a central position.


I think that players like Allen and Can would have been used if we were coming out against a tough team with a strong midfield in which we'd struggle to maintain possession, but against Southampton I think this very well could be the set-up. Gerrard holding and playing deepest, Henderson acting as a box to box engine and Coutinho playing a more free-roaming role.

Now that we have signed Lovren and Moreno seems only a matter of time, what is your dream XI! I have this crazy idea about playing either of Enrique or Moreno on the right side.

Would it be possible that Rodgers just might go in with Agger, Skrtel, Lovern and Sahko as our 4 primary CB's?

With the Toure rumors, and the fact Barca just signed TV, so it might mean they won't go after Agger.

If we can't sell Agger we'll pretty much throw him out on loan towards the end of the window.

Personally i'd rather keep him.

You realise you're talking about keeping hold of a defender on 90+k/week who's already stated that he's not interested in remaining at the club if he's not a consistent starter for use as a squad/rotation player, right?

Ok obviously still some room for improvement, but I really like our team. To start the season I'd like to see this:
