Southampton is an awesome team tho. If Spurs board have any brain they should go for Ralph Hasenhuttl now.

Fernandes is such a joy to watch. He reminds me a little of David Silva.

Any midfielders in EPL who you'd rate more than Fernandes? I can't think of anyone bar KDB.

Hmm could be because he is only getting there with this team and next season if he is still in charge, with some good signings he can really push on and achieve much better, possibly even an Europa league spot.

That's not going to happen, the squad is too poor and his tactical heroics which rely on those mediocre players running around like crazies and oveexerting themselves constantly don't even stretch over 90 minutes, never mind a season

anyway, I'm going to need Southampton to score at least 3 more goals since we have to assume Man United get at least another penalty, if not a couple more, tonight

Yea without adding some better players they might suffer burnout. But Ole did say Southampton are the fittest team in the league or something like that. Here even without having much to play for anymore, they are still running around like mad dogs. Its fascinating really considering the approach normally mid table teams take at this stage of the season.

This match is far from over. Everytime they go forward they are creating chances. Another effect Soton playing like this is the fact that Ole wont be able to make those 60 minute substitutes he was making every game so far allowing our starters to rest. That has been one of the secrets to our run so far.

danyjr wrote:See this is what I mean when I said Ole's setting his team tactically is poor. They are pressing but there is no trained plan, probably just told the forwards to push forward to the ball carrier hoping for them to misplace passes. Moreover there is no plan to capitalise on Southampton's the long balls or positioning the midfielders to win second balls.

I get what you're saying, but the same claims have been made about Poch and Mou's tactics in games where their teams were struggling. Somehow, Poch doesn't seem to be held accountable for it, and Mou's only held accountable for it when people impulsively decide that he's not charming anymore. I can't think of any other manager people have a more bi-polar impression of than Mou. For a while, I thought people on here were joking after Mou became a pundit, and he was suddenly described as some kind of misunderstood genius. Personally, I don't think we know as much about any of these managers tactics, as we think we do. It would be nice if we all knew better, though.

I definitely have as much of a tendency as everyone else to watch matches and tell myself that this and that needs to be done in order to turn the match in team A's favor, but I don't actually think it's that simple in real life. It also needs to be said that Ole has a team of assistant coaches that have experience with success at Man United. I would assume that Ole would be found out quite soon if he was as tactically incompetent as you describe.

danyjr wrote:Pogba out. He needs a slap in the face.

What is that now, 2 good performances in a row? 1 goal all season. Another misunderstood genius, I suppose hmm

I'm going to repeat what I said last week, if United want to compete for EPL next season they need better players than Maguire and Shaw.

I'm all for having British players in the starting line up, as traditionally has been one of United's strong points, but these lads are not up to the task. I'm not sure about adding Rice or Grealish to the squad either.

I'm not the biggest fan of Grealish, personally. Not Maguire either, for that matter. I never got the impression that any of us ever actually rated Maguire that highly, but as far as English CBs go, I suppose he's about as good as it gets. The only thing I like about Shaw is that he contributes on both ends of the pitch, but his quality and consistency aren't good enough.

Ideally, they'd upgrade their LB, CB, CM and bring in a RW. Realistically, they'll probably get one established player and maybe some more low profile ones for some of the other positions.

I really dont know which players (best midfielder or whatever) you are talking about or even what kind of plan do ManUtd have. I see one team playing some nice football and trying to do something which is Southampton. Where as I have seen only 1 play from Rashford where he tried to build something otherwise Utd look very desperate mid table team trying to punch above their weight, hanging on for their life there.

Very unlucky that United had to play with 10 men at the end. It would have been a different story 11 vs 11.

Yeah, that's what Dany mentioned earlier. It does look like they have no tangible game plan. I would assume that's not actually the case, though. Like I mentioned earlier, I see it relatively often, and people seem to quite arbitrarily decide whether it matters or not.

I'm not sure which midfielder you're referring to. Fernandes?
