I actually watched the direct and I'm still getting one, want it as a handheld JRPG machine mostly tbh

Greedfall, a game which looks like a 10-year old trash with horrible animations, lip syncing and voice acting is getting good to great reviews.

Meanwhile Mass Effect Andromeda looked far better than this at release and received poor to bad reviews.

I can't stand the fact that both the media and the public have a soft spot for indie developers these days.

They don't, they cherry pick them up, to counter balance their bias towards "aaa"-developers who bring the ad revenue. Somebody rates it, and others join the wagon. They also cherry pick once in a while a "aaa"-game which they gang on, without losing the publisher, like on ME4. This has been going many years now, and why reviews are useless in general.

Agreed. Having read numerous reviews (especially user reviews), I observed a trend where the initial wave of reviews set the mood for the rest of the reviews. I'm not sure if it is called Confirmation Bias on Collective Bias or maybe just "joining the wagon", but I even found myself the victim of the same phenomenon, e.g. was convinced a game is terrible after playing it and then went and read the 'positive' reviews and thought 'maybe it isn't as bad as I thought'.

And yes, the less importance is given to reviews the better.

Isn’t Greedfall an MMO? Or am I getting it mixed up with a different game?

It's a single player RPG which apparently has many Bioware elements in it.

Andromeda has way bigger problems than that though.

The writing, characters, skill trees, quest design was fundamentally crap, people made a big deal about the animations, lip syncing and voice acting but it was hiding the fact the game just wasn't good at all.

Sure Greedfall doesn't seem to have great level of production value, but it seems to has a lot of the things that actually matter to make a game fun and engaging.

Some of the best RPGs ever made weren't great visually for the time they were made.

Ah, thanks for clarifying. It’s metascore is pretty even between user and critics reviews, which is quite rare. Seems like a pretty average RPG, from what I can tell. Add a bit of sympathy for the indie devs, and you have a slightly above average score.

Not sure how one can call this game engaging where it is hard to get past the horrible animations and voice acting. It genuinely looks and feels like it is a game from a decade ago. I watched some guy on twitch playing it last night so I couldn't believe my eyes when I woke up to read all the positive reviews. Aren't you the same guy who was shooting down Kingdom Come: Deliverance for looking old?

The reception Mass Effect got was one of the saddest I've witnessed in gaming. Was the game devoid of any problems? Absolutely not. I agree with poor quest design, but writing and characters were certainly heaps above Greedfall. Andromeda didn't deserve the media/fan hostility. I played it 6 months after release and it was a game I fondly look back at and forever regret not having the chance to play the potential sequel(s) to it.

I never played Andromeda, but I read that they fixed a shit ton of technical issues in the weeks and months following it’s release. The people who bought and played it in it’s original state were probably left with a much worse impression of the game.

My roommate bought an Xbox One for now we have 2K20 and Battlefield 1

And me i'll probably buy a PS4 before christmas, i still play shooters on PS3 too

I think 2K20 is quite shite tbh (i get the feeling to control a heavy truck more than an agile basketball player) but Battlefield 1 is damn fun.

There is only a four point difference between Andromeda and Greedfall on Opencritic

The part about Randy Pitchford leaving a USB with "barely legal" porn and documents not meant for the public to see, at a Medieval restaurant, is about as absurd as it is hilarious. The rest of his controversies are entertaining, as well. Makes you wonder how he's kept his job for so long.

also, Sony announced a PS4 state of play stream for uh..the 24th? most ppl assume we're getting a TLOU2 release date...for spring. Maybe Death Stranding stuff too.

I'm interested in seeing more Ghosts of Tsushima but imagine it's end of gen release

Dragon Quest is legit.

For the first time I will look into fire emblem. Playing Valkyria Chronicles remastered (awesome) for the first time and it will leave me with the need for more tactics rpg. Tactics RPG more than normal RPGs seem perfectly suited for the switch as handheld imo.
