Also, did Roma sign Pellegrini only to give him a 25m € release clause? Sounds really, really stupid and borderline unbelievable.

Yes. That's right. We will sell Lewandowski, and then replace him with Morata.

AS
LIVERPOOL have been warned to brace themselves this summer for interest surrounding Roberto Firmino.
The Brazilian is one of the club’s prized assets and a backup option, let alone a replacement, isn’t on the agenda this summer.
Yet after a career-best haul of 23 goals - with two months of the season remaining - the contribution the forward has made has not gone unnoticed. Once considered underrated, Firmino is now earned widespread praise from plenty in the footballing world - including pundits.
But that has led to speculation the South American will be attracting attention from other clubs across Europe, with former Arsenal striker Ian Wright warning Liverpool that Bayern Munich may come calling. Speaking to Sky Sports, he reportedly said: "They are talking about (Robert) Lewandowski to Real Madrid.
"If that happens Bayern want Bobby Firmino. Firmino is an excellent nine and a half. He is unbelievable.

PJANIC TO PSG?
Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Juventus midfielder Miralem Pjanic, reports Corriere della Sera.
The Ligue 1 leaders are proposing a five-year contract worth €8m (£7m) after tax, almost twice as much as the €4.5m (£3.9m) he is currently on.

Well, to be fair, Pjanic had only a 28M release clause so Roma does these things.
Pellegrini is their youth product, they sold him to Sassuolo with a buyback option which they then exercised.
As of January, Roma were working on an improved contract for Pellegrini, increasing/removing the 25M release clause but as of now, nothing has happened. Pellegrini also hasn't had an unreal season by any means but he is definitely a talented central midfielder and at 25M that's beyond reasonable for today's market. I'm sure if he wants Juve, it'll happen.

why are release clauses even a thing? are they a legal obligation in Serie A? you basically never hear of them in the PL.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2018/19
I think it has to do with the culture and legislation of the league. In France for example by law it's forbidden. In Spain it's cultural, players wanna make sure they have an out and I think the player association encourages player negotiate a release clause in their deal. In Italy it could be somewhere in the middle. No need trying to understand Brexit leaguesFirenze wrote:why are release clauses even a thing? are they a legal obligation in Serie A? you basically never hear of them in the PL.

I’d imagine it’s something that competent agents lobby for

Release clauses are mandatory in Spain. In Italy they aren't. It's up to each contract. Juve for example has a strict no release clause policy. Roma puts them all the time like with Pjanic and now Pellegrini for a hilarious amount.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2018/19
Is it possible, @McLewis or @Iftikhar may confirm or deny, that Roma put low release clause to avoid problems with FFP regulations ?
Pellegrini realease clause depends on the total of appearances. Personally i don't have a definite opinion on him so far, i saw 2-3 great performances and many games he went unnoticed. From what i understand, Juve only informed Roma that we are ready to trigger the clause. No papers have been signed yet.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2018/19
Paris Saint-Germain will reportedly ‘strongly, strongly’ pursue the signing of Juventus’ Alex Sandro in the summer.
The French club have been heavily linked with the left-back in recent weeks, along with the likes of Real Madrid and Manchester United.
And according to Claudia Garcia, a respected journalist in Sandro’s homeland of Brazil, the 27-year-old could soon be on his way out of Turin.
“If PSG still don’t have clear ideas on their Coach, they do on players,” Garcia told Rai Sport.
“They are looking for a left-back, a centre-back and maybe a forward to replace Cavani if he leaves.
“In terms of the left-back, the priority at the moment is definitely Alex Sandro.
“PSG will go strongly, strongly for Alex Sandro in June.”

Nothing can be triggered or signed until the window opens.
From what I read, the appearance thing does impact his clause. I’ve also read roma are trying to extend him to remove or increase the clause. So we’ll see what happens first.
I don’t think it’s a FFP thing, I do think it’s an agent thing. A good agent who can negotiate a lower release clause gives so much value to himself and so much leverage to play with. This is just my own personal view though.

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2018/19
thinking more on Bale, I'd take him for 40M or so. I bet Madrid want double that, he's like 29 now and still very injury prone right? 40m is probably still too much and I'm just remembering his glory days. Has he lost his pace completely or still rapid? @Mehdridstas

Re: Summer Transfer Rumours 2018/19
Sir Gareth is every bit as good as the player we signed, i dare say he is even better and has that CL mentality that can take United to a new level. True Elite, playing along the likes of Ronaldo, Modric, Kroos. He has what Mourinho calls "Football heritage"
Also, having been injured quite a bit in madrid means that he is way fresher than usual 29 years old players, he doesnt have the same mileage than most, so back in England, with his injuries problem subsiding thanks to the brexit fresh air, he will certainly stay fit and keep his prime for at least 5 more years.
you shall present 200 mil in compensation to acquire Sir Gareth. His agent did say he will cost as much as neymar but we will give you a discount to thank you for handing us our 2nd best player ever,

If Van Dijk is worth 75m no less than 150m will do as Lascelles can actually defend.

Can't say I watch much Chelsea but when I do I get the impression your CBs are either shit or a full back in disguise.
I'd sell most of them and rebuild tbh.
