Re: General Games Discussion
Basically, in trying to distance themselves from Terraria, the Starbound team have broken/twisted a lot of early promises. The progression is extremely linear, the boss fights are all in predetermined and unalterable settings, and the development continues to take random turns and make random changes to the game that delay it's full release, making it quite unstable and difficult to maintain mods for.

Re: General Games Discussion
Just fired up PCSX2 and Final Fantasy X at 4k is actually acceptable. Although in areas were the environment isn't 3D it doesn't look that great and the resolution shift between 3D characters and the 2D environment is meh.
FFXII in 4k though... damn it holds up well.
I wonder how Shadow of the Colossus does in 4k...

At least Shadow of Mordor had some new ideas, and was a relatively low-budget game developed by modest, Monolith Games. BF3 was just a result of EA and the Battlefield franchise attempting to claim some of the casual consumers that buy Call of Duty every year.

New ideas don't factor in enjoyment of a game though
I enjoyed Assassins Creed Unity more

That's true. I'm just saying that personally, I pardon them for trying something new, as compared to recycling a well established, proven concept and not doing too shabby The majority of people enjoy games just as much without the single player/campaign part, which is why publishers have realised that they can save money by not including them. Games are all about enjoyment, of course, but it's retarded that heavyweight publishers can effortlessly churn out the most popular games and remove stuff gradually, without anyone caring too much about it because the entertainment factor is still there to a sufficient extent.

Re: General Games Discussion
I didn't really like Shadow of Mordor that much either, but I definitely endorse smaller companies that aren't financially backed by publishers that dictate how and when their games will be released. I hope Monolith's next game will be better, and that they don't end up agreeing to become a sub-company of EA or Activision - which will only result in Shadow of Mordor two being half the size of the original game, with better graphics and even more dumbed down game mechanics

One of the main issues of SoM was that in order to take advantage of the Nemesis system (and create your own story and fun experience) you had to die. Thing is the game is so damn easy that it's actually pretty hard to die.
The Lord of the Hunt DLC fixed most of my gripes about SoM though.

Re: General Games Discussion
I'll be honest my biggest issue was that each quest pretty much followed the same formula.
After years of playing Arkham and Ubisoft type open world games i got a bit burnt out and that was the game that put me over the edge

Difficult to choose best and worst games. I've said 'this game is top 3 of all time' for about 30 odd games lmao.
best category is more difficult than the worst category for me. I'll give it a think

There's been relatively little talk about this game since it was announced.

Well, they didn't exactly take their time in developing it. When did they release Far Cry 4? A year ago? It's Ubisoft. No one cares if developers make half assed products these days, as long as they're enjoyable to play.

Re: General Games Discussion
Tbf it's made by a different team than who made Far Cry 4, that's how they do this lol. When Assassins Creed comes out every year they don't actually spend one year on it and release it. They split it around different developers and spend anywhere between 2 and 4 years on it.
It's just the core mechanics don't change so everyone cries "it's the same!"

AC series has been ruined though. Ubisoft set yearly release dates and there is no scope for delay. Look up how the AC3 dev team was abused and how they had to cut content and release a broken game on launch. No doubt we will get similar stories from Unity devs in a few years.

Not denying that, eventually when you see sequel after sequel it's gonna get old.
It's not because of lack of dev time though.

Re: General Games Discussion
Considering how disappointing FC4 was according to most fans, they really should have tried to change it instead of keeping the same core mechanics. Open world games using the same system all the time gets boring.

It's not best and worst, its favourite and most disappointing. Big differences there.

Not really. Most fans just said FC 3 had a better story and were pleased with the mechanics. If it ain't broke don't fix it. Nothing about the gameplay felt boring or outdated.

Tbh i enjoyed FC4 for what it was, i just have a huge issue with First Person Open World games where the draw distance causes me motion sickness.
