Best way to level is to do quests as high above in level as possible, while still green.

Also there is a cheat way of getting fairly decent XP if you ever want that when you are stuck

You get more XP when you beat a red foe, but not sure about missions.

Not that it's possible to do them in red lol. I've tried.

Arrived on Skellige. Level 22.

Did the swords and dumplings quest on Novigrad. The elf Hatori promises me a GOAT sword. Do thousands of jobs for him. Gives me a sword that is -50 to my current one.

I had a collection of 7 swords. And his was the worst one Laughing

Same thing happened when you get a legendary sword later on by someone (not really a spoiler) and it was terrible. Sold it straight away
