Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Most teams that have won the EPL lately have had at least three quality out and out strikers.
lf we want to win l still think we need another striker regardless of the Sanchez purchase in addition to Joel.

If Campbell and Sanchez can play up front then I don't see the need for more esp. when Theo can too and Poldi can kind of sort of not really.

Agreed vendeta
Joel aint a CF not yet at least

We should try and get a striker from south America.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Who to sign though? Benzema is signing a new contract, Cavani is staying, Balotelli is crap, Mandzukic is not better than Giroud atleast not by much. Jackson Martinez? Nope, overrated and overpriced. Remy? Different option but not that much better than Giroud. So...

Little pea?
PS I swore I'd insult anyone who claimed again Mandzu is 'not that much better than Giroud', but it is your section after all

l don't want to walk into the season with any "ifs" in the striker situation tbh. City, Chelsea, Liverpool and United in all likely-hood won't.
Sanchez, campbell, Poldi and Walcott all probably can play uptop.. But it isn't optimal. They will probably struggle, and get isolated easily, especially against tougher competition..
They are all better out wide, especially considering the formation we play and Wenger's system. Our team is better imo if they are all listed as RW1, RW2, LW1 and LW2 or something like that.
Just sign another high quality starting number 9. And no not remy. Someone who can actually threaten to bench Giroud and will keep him on his toes. He can't keep getting handed the starting spot year after year because he has no real back up or competition.
We can't worry about players getting benched or not seeing that much gametime. l've said it before but City bought Jovetic and didn't even use him. Might seem wasteful but to win the league thats what you have to do. Be wasteful. Sign a ton of players and figure out where they all fit in later.

He clearly is, imo..
The issue is that he is just Giroud 1.5. He's better but he has the same issues as him and is pretty similar.
For example, lf we are down a goal in a game where Mandzukic starts.. Subbing him off to bring on Giroud won't change the dynamic of the game at all. they just overlap too much. lf we are going to buy a striker for 20m or close to it l'd much rather they have a more unique skill set.. More pace, or something.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Bony is definitely a good player and I wouldn't scoff at him were Arsenal to sign him but I don't think he's good enough to take the squad to the next level.
---
Imagine if the summer's business were Debuchy (£10m), Sanchez (£20-25m), Ospina (£3.5m), Schneiderlin (£20m), Henen (£1-3m?), and a center-back of some kind (we're not being linked to anyone really heavily right now, are we? give it anywhere up to £15m). Let's say that, depending on the CB signing, Vermaelen may stay, or may move on for somewhere in the region of £10m. Otherwise players like Podolski & Arteta stay on as experienced pros, albeit Arteta especially would see less match time moving ahead. And Joel Campbell stays at Arsenal this year.
That's an outlay of something like £50 million, give or take, and only one player (Schneiderlin) who'd be overpriced but perhaps necessary given the circumstances.
Would you be happy with that summer scenario?

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
City and Liverpool play with two strikers usually, so of course they've got more than two good strikers. United played with two, too, though they'll likely only play with one now and in that event one of them will eventually leave for more playing time. Chelsea only have one good striker now, not counting Lukaku who'll likely move.
If you play with one striker, you only need two, and maybe a third guy who can cover. Quality depth in midfield is more important for our formation.

Exactly, which is why we need to sign our second striker lol. Sanago and Campbell can't be the back ups. They are more like 3rd emergency options or 'who cares we are playing Coventry City so give them some burn up top' type starters as of now.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
The reason I mentioned Bony was threefold:
1- He's a different profile than Giroud
2- He's shown that he can play effectively in the EPL despite getting crap service mostly
3- You don't want to go into the season with Giroud/Sanogo. Giroud/Bony is at least a workable combo. Assuming Arsenal gets someone like Sanchez opposite Ozil, the scoring load on the CF will be far lessened.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
How many players do we want, we're becoming a bit greedy
Let's say:
CF: Giroud, New Striker, Campbell
RW: Walcott, New Winger, Chamberlain
LW: New Winger, Podolski, Cazorla
AM: Özil, Cazorla, Rosicky
CM: Ramsey, Wilshere, Diaby
DM: New DM, Flamini, Arteta
RB: New RB, Jenkinson
LB: Gibbs, Monreal
CB: Mertesacker, Koscielny, Vermaelen, New CB
GK: Szczesny, New GK, Martinez
That's 27 players
Adding a new winger + Campbell is too much let alone add ANOTHER new striker on top of that and 3 DM's

Campbell is not a CF. He's a winger who can score.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
thats when versatility has to come to play
considering neither Debuchy nor Schneiderlin can play CB,we definitely need another [regardless of Vermaelen situation]
as for attack quality>quantity
if we have to offload x or y to get someone better so be it
Alexis alone for me isnt enough
but i understand lack of options
dont want Giroud as a main CF for 3rd season in row

Still doesn't change the fact that no club starts the season with 27 players sports and that' without including Sanogo and Gnabry

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Well, are Real Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern and the Manchester Clubs greedy? Yeah.. but they win things.
When you consider that Podolski, Ramsey, Oxlade, Walcott and Wilshere have all had significant long term injuries recently.. Arteta is done, Diaby needs to retire, Flamini and Rosicky are older and can't be relied on that much.. and Gnabry and Sanago should probably be on loan.. We aren't that deep, especially when compared to other top clubs.
The same story happens every year.. We have periods when we are great.. but then suffer a dip in form when injuries hit and starters are overworked. l don't want to see that again. We have the money. Make sure it doesn't happen again.
We can't pencil in players for roles they aren't ready for or haven't proven they can handle over the course of a season where we play in four different competitions.
lf they prove they are good enough and displace someone else great. We can't be too worried about players not getting all that much game time. Generally, if they are paid a decent wage, on a team that wins and compete for trophies, players are happy to take back seat roles and try to fight for spots.
lf thats what we need to do to improve our chances of winning the league, and the CL, then so be it.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
Real Madrid won the CL with 23 players
Barcelona nearly won La Liga with 23 players
Manchester City won League Cup + Premier League with 23 players
etc...
Fair enough if you want a new striker or defensive midfielder but you need to make space for them. Sell Podolski and Flamini, that's 25 players and if you ignore Diaby that's 24 which is closer to normal.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
We don't need to make space for them. The squad limit is 25, and we have to register 19. So we can sign 6 new players without having to offload anyone.
I'm certain we won't sign a fourth choice centre back, and we can pretty much factor out Diaby so that leaves a backup keeper, right back, defensive midfielder and winger/forward. Four new players plus Campbell, which brings the total up to 23 (24 including Chamberlain, who doesn't need to be registered). Send Sanogo on loan and that's another one down.
I don't think there'll be any problems with space.

Re: The Official Summer Transfer Rumours Thread
I honestly don't think Balague knows anything about transfers at all (Said Özil would snub us for MUFC and that Fabregas wasn't close to Chelsea move a DAY before it was announced)
but he said this just now
@GuillemBalague 9m
I heard Arsenal have a personal agreement with Alexis but offer less to FCB than Liverpool. Juve also interested.
