Really, a decent group and they would have struggled. Why did Basel bottle it twice vs. Steaua

Hey Chelsea are through so they're doing something right.

Basel might be a bogey team for them.

That's because Basel are better against "good" teams. They hate being the favourites - then they tend to bottle it.

Next matchday will be hard for me - either Basel qualifies or Schalke. I would so have loved to see both proceed Sad

This is the sort of stat you expect from Bayern-Plzen in Alianz. not a team assembled for 700 million pounds against some Swiss side.

He'll probably say something funny in post-match conference and will be hailed for it.

This is FC Basel 1893, not "some Swiss side".

And Mou said: "We deserved that defeat."

returning to the same place is often wrong in sports ...
I was sceptical about this choice  and for now this Chelsea is not convincing me ... he was perfect for Manchester City
we'll see if ithe season will turn

Mourinho has enough pedigree that he'll be judged at the end of the season instead of after a game that was meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Certain managers are above knee jerk reactions, Jose is one of them

Also it's funny how Chelsea are through with 9 points yet Arsenal could potentially go out with 12, football is weird man.

Well honestly they couldn't because there is more chance of Hitler being revived by God and start World War 3 than Napoli beating Arsenal by 3 or more.

I know Basel unjustly beat us and we were knocked out a while back, but those Chelsea players should be ashamed of themselves. There's no excuse for a club of their supposed calibre having no shots over 90 minutes against a team from Switzerland. :coffee:

You're ignoring the fact that Chelsea are top of the group. Big teams lose to "smaller" ones sometimes, because the "smaller" sides are motivated to play well against them.

Stop knee-jerking. Chelsea are top of their CL group, tied in second place in the league with a team who only has one competition to worry about, and still in contention for the Carling Cup and FA Cup. This is not even close to a disaster. All that is left to do in the Champions League for Chelsea is to make sure that they finish as group leaders. Next, they face Bucharest, who they beat 4-0 in the away fixture after they were under pressure to turn around their home defeat against Basel.

yes, of course .... but I've never seen trudging Mourinho as this year ... maybe only last year but because he had a group of players disliked him ( and anyway Ancelotti is doing even worse )

of course it is early for judgments

I'm just gutted that Chelsea got this easy a group, after seeing them limbing across the finish line. They deserve to go out in the first knock-out round - unless Mourinho actually finds a way to get the best out of his attacking talent, but zero chances against Basel is embarassing.

It is embarrassing, honestly this is going to be MOus toughest challenge since Porto. Though we are joint second in the league, and went through to the last 16. I'm not impressed by us at all, it was nice to see a surge in Torres for a few games but after he got injured, everyone else went flat.
