I wont go overreacting and say TD is a goat show after like 4 episodes ?...it is definitely interesting and Rust Cohle character is one of the weirdest character i have seen on television.
Re: True Detective || HBO
4 episodes in and people say it's GOAT, you just have to know it's worth the hassle.

Re: True Detective || HBO
Certainly some great acting in this show. It's a bit of a slow burn, but many shows are like that and have won quite a bit.
I do love the narrative being told, how its being told as well as where and when it's being told. Lush imagery as well. Reminds me almost of Carnivale in a way.
Really enjoying this so far, but let's finish the anthology before we call it anything else, but great TV.

it's going the opposite way
my predictions are coming true, seems like Rust is, like Marty said, trying to get a feel on these guys, he suspects there's a coverup with the anti christian crimes unit being in on it, he wants to see if these two guys are in bed with them too or trustworthy. These cops will solve the case but only after Rust leads them in that direction, ironically like they're accusing him of doing the first time around.
I think Rust has been solving this case in all the years he was off the grid, the new murder was done to try to bring him out into the open or maybe be pinned on him, because the people doing this suspect him of being behind some of the deaths of members in their cult. Think he's been taking them out.
And I think it's a possibility that Marty is there to try to pin it on him, since he's part of it now. If they are in positions of power within the police etc, they think highly of him, and I'm skeptical about him killing the meth cook this ep. Feel like he intentionally was there to kill him regardless. Didn't want Rust questioning him. Didn't want to leave Rust alone and go call it in. Still not sure about this theory, not sure if Marty is involved with them. But it wouldn't surprise me.

This was during episode two, did any of you notice it? It's the spiral that's discovered on the victims backs.

Re: True Detective || HBO
And I thought Episode 4 was GOAT.
What an amazing show. I knew Reggie Ledoux was not the big bad. There is an evil cult whose leader is the Yellow King whoever that is. I don't think it's Cohle, really don't see this show doing a Fight Club. I think he never stopped investigating and is still investigating in 2012 and he is trying to lead the two new detectives to the real killer who somehow has some friends in high places.
I read somewhere that Episode 7 and 8 will only take place in 2012, not sure if it's true but I can see it going there.

5 kings. maybe there are 5 leaders of the cult?
Marty's girl saw something or maybe something happened to her as a child but she knows the killer or maybe one of them.

Saw people speculating that maybe her Grandfather is involved(Marty's father in law), he's a rich lawyer apparently (I missed that) Also, read people discussing that in episode 1 someone mentioned how some old sheriff covered something up and his surname was the same as one of the Prison guards Rust asked about last episode after the guy killed himself.

This is...jesus christ...just f*cking glorious...
Best thing on TV atm.
This show is on ANOTHER LEVEL!!!
I can't see it being Rust all along. It would be too obvious, cliched or whatever ffs. It can't be that. It will be anti-climatic.
Oh and this show is f*cking next level!!!! Get the f*ck innnnnnnnnnnnn!!!!!
Will talk about the episode a bit more later on.

Re: True Detective || HBO
I was reading an interview with the cast, Matthew Mcconaughey was originally approached for the role of Marty Hart, but he basically cast himself as Cohle after reading the script lol. He was also the reason Woody Harrelson signed up for the show after Mcconaughey recommended it to him.
Thank god ffs. Can't imagine anyone else in the role as Rust.

Re: True Detective || HBO
Rust Chole is a complex character indeed. He reminds me of Dr. House in so many ways !
I've also seen a couple of familiar faces so far. The Minister from episode 1 has played Detective Lester Freamon in The Wire, and Mrs. Kelly, the bad fingered mom is Jesse Pinkman's mother from The Breaking Bad.
Promising series but a bit too early to label it as great.

Fantastic show, best of the year by far.
Quality control, slow burn just as I love it, both characters very interesting, I like Woody's even better.
I guess Rust is suspecting that the one of the two present detectives is part of the whole thing, didn't he say something like "how'd you keep her name out of the papers, you got friends in high places?", and then "you wasted my day, company man"...
He was indeed 'getting a read' on them, as Marty suggested.
Also, am I the only one who thought the guy pictured on the foto showing the gathering at the lastest crime scene isn't really Rust? Seemed weird.
Anyway, they're trying heavy to pin it on Rust, so it's going to be interesting to see how Marty acts, given that he's a pretty troubled and morally shaky guy lol..
As for that las part of your theory, it is to be considered of course that Marty was in on it all along, since he executed the guy, but I don't think it will turn out that way, and if so I wouldn't like it.
Because it would be too much of a turnaround and go against too much of the things we learned about Marty, in this character driven story.
We did learn Marty is a piece of shit, a sanctimonious and hypocritical piece of shit, but not really an EVIL piece of shit.
Don't think he'd be capable of such conscious deception, as he's basically a guy believing his own lies, about his marriage etc.
It could however be that he caves under pressure at some point, as he's a coward; but I think what's been narrated so far about Marty and his relationship with Rust, and his actions in the case, shouldn't turn out to be that deceptive.

Re: True Detective || HBO
I don't think Rust is an option, I hope Marty isn't an option. If it was Marty, that would just cheapen the entire series, bring it down to the level of using cheap meaningless twists which contradict everything we've been told from the start.
I think
-There are multiple killers (some type of cult)
- Tuttle was a part of it, Rust thought he was the Yellow King, but he wasn't.
- After he killed Tuttle, the other members of the cult are trying to draw him out and get him convicted.
Still trying to understand the role of the daughters here though.

Yeah I don't think Marty is actually involved, but I won't completely write it off. The Writer has said in multiple interviews there will be no huge twists etc, since he doesn't like those.
Still think people could be right that Marty's father in law may be involved with the cult.

Does the show get more fast paced from episode 2 and does it have more suspense/action? Only watched episode 1.
