Because one pre-season tour is too mainstream
Chelsea and Everton have confirmed that they are to take part in a pre-season tournament in the United States this summer.
"We are looking forward to taking part in the tournament as part of our preparation for the 2013/14 season"
Ron Gourlay
The two Premier League clubs have been invited to participate in the International Champions Cup, which will involve some of the leading clubs in world football playing in various US cities at the end of July and beginning of August.
Spanish Liga giants Real Madrid, Italian champions Juventus and fellow Serie A clubs Inter Milan and AC Milan will be among the eight clubs to take part in the tournament with Spanish Liga side Valencia and Major League Soccer outfit LA Galaxy also involved.
Everton will play their first match on Tuesday 30 July in San Francisco, before travelling to Los Angeles for their second match on Saturday 3 August and concluding their participation in a third match in Miami on either Tuesday 6 or Wednesday 7 August.
Chelsea, who four days after succumbing 4-3 to Manchester City in a post-season friendly in St Louis lost 5-3 to the same side in another friendly in New York on Saturday, have yet to confirm the dates and venues of their trip, but their chief executive Ron Gourlay confirmed the Blues' involvement.
"We are looking forward to taking part in the tournament as part of our preparation for the 2013/14 season," he said.
The full tournament schedule, venues and ticket information will be released on Wednesday 29 May.

Liverpool sold out the MCG and Yanited sold out Allianz (something unseen in an age), Chelsea could just as easily fill up any stadium in Australia too, and theyre always in Thiland, Malyasia etc, its not even that much further to go

I was just to one of the games on last year's tour. If these shysters think they're going to come here every year and I'll just happily fork up my cash every time, they can forget it

Oh you'd like that wouldn't you?
I said the club, not the forums. Nice try though, you duplicitous backstabber
Besides, the media as usual are just feeding the public a bunch of garbage in the hopes they'll lop it all up at a canter. And based on the evidence on these boards, it's working a charm
