AS reporting Monaco want to buy Coentrao for 18 million. That's insane, Coentrao should under no circumstance be allowed to leave, him leaving will just weaken the squad, Real Madrid should use the transfer window to strengthen the squad not weaken it.

With Mourinho leaving the club Coentrao feels as though he is going to lose the protection he had, and playing competition all season for a player of his level at 25 is not funny. It's understandable he wants to move, i would ask for more money given what we paid for him but if he wants to go and we get good money for him it's ok imo.

Coentrao presently is better than Marcelo at left back, there's no guarantee Marcelo would get his form back or be injury free next season. I dread having Arbeloa or Nacho as left back for most of next season.

Coentrao just needs reassurance from the club, he enjoys playing for Real Madrid. Real Madrid shouldn't be selling her best players, seeing Robben and Sneijder win the Champions League made me sad. I can see Coentrao doing similar if we allow him to leave he's a top, top left back.

only thing marcelo lacks his game time, he didnt suffer the kind of injury that stops you from being a good player. But mourinho marginalized him this season for Coentrao after the injury.

Coentrao just this week said he doesnt enjoys being in madrid because he feels unwanted, whatever it means. you can find quality left backs to replace Coentrao, losing him isnt the end of the world

anyway, marcelo is better in form, and given how carlo use fullbacks, he will be better for us. we missed him dearly this season.

How can we let him leave???? We all know how injuries change players permanently, and marcelo's leg bone broke and he was out for almost half a year, and how can we ensure that he will not be effected in that way too??

Sure i hate coentrao going forward as he sucks! his crosses are horrible, his dribbling in the final third even worse than that.. but he provides a defensive stability at most times.

Besides, there's a big shortage of good fullbacks nowadays anyway...

Modric holds on to the ball too much? What about Ozil

Regardless I don't care if either of them hold on "too long" with the ball. As long as it leads to a completed pass,maintains possession, and keeps our game flowing.

Ozil is an AM, who's usually looking for the final pass, not a dictacting CM

Modric is a good player, don't get me wrong, but a squad player. He's like Cesc, not a CM, but not an AM either.

lol. Cesc is a natural n10, easily top 3 before he left Arsenal, but now he is lost at barcelona because they dont have his position.

modric was a classic n10 that adapted to the epl and played seasons at CM. he is capable of doing both. he simply doesnt play the position like ozil does, doesnt mean he is not an attacking midfielder.

Modric is not a AM. He takes too long on the ball to succeed at AM at the highest level. He would need to change his style. He is a CM in every sense of the word... i used to think he was more a AM too until i actually watched him.

We are talking about this moment. Cesc at Arsenal started as a CM, alongside Gilberto Silva in a 4-4-1-1, then he moved at AM/SS/10. Practically Wenger adapted Arsenal's tactics to suit him behind the striker.But he doesn't have the attributes of a 10. At Barca Pep/Tito couldn't do the same,because of obviously better players like Messi, Iniesta and Xavi, and look where he is now. Nothing more than average, outshined by Thiago.

Modric was never at Arsenal's Cesc level.

Have you watched him lately ? Arsenal Cesc was worldclass, but now he is just a good player, not the same. Maybe he isn't used properly, I don't know

Porto sold Moutinho and James for 70 million ffs. If they want Di Maria and Coentrao I want them to give us around that amount.

We can negotiate a little, but I don't think I want the move to breakdown over transfer fee.

It's not a huge difference. One day we might want to get one of these guys Monaco is going to buy - and I think it's worth more to keep things amiable between both clubs than to haggle over 5 million on a guy like Coentrao.
