Arsenal didn't want to pay more than half of Sahin's wages while Liverpool offered to pay most of it... that was the clincher.

Liverpool has an option to buy at £14 million according to reports in Spain.

Coquelin deserves starts not sub appearances.

Can't say I disagree. Not sure Stoke away would be my first choice for him as it's such a different game to the norm. Shocked

Liverpool away? They are there for the taking. If he plays well against an established PL club it could spur him on.

Agree on the point about the vultures coming if he shows what he's all about (about 10 times the player Song is-certainly when it comes to passing).

I know the French rate him as one of their very best prospects and he's played very well for his country at every junior level up to and including U-21. Wasn't he one of the standout players in the 2010 U-19 Euro?

Suppose Arsene has no choice in the be all and end all. If we've got him...play him.

God, I just hope Arsene reads this and SEES that many fans want him to be given his chance and we won't complain at seeing him named in the team. In fact many will welcome it. cheers

I think we need that dude in your avatar. We don't need Batman...we need The Hulk, Iron Man and Godzilla.

Always a tough one to predict...we'll either lose 1-0 to a dodgy foul on the keeper from a throw or thump them 4-0. Just hop all our new signings leave the pitch in one piece.

I do think Giroud may shock them a bit (he's a nailed on starter for this imo). He's not one to be pushed about in the area.

A loan for Sahin, even without a buy-out clause makes plenty of sense for Liverpool. Sahin comes in, helps the side get a higher position in the league (potentially securing a CL spot, as unlikely as that may seem) and then returns to Madrid. The improved league position will help Liverpool secure better targets than the club could otherwise get, even if Sahin doesn't stay. There's also a high likelihood that even if there is no official buy-out clause the club will still have first refusal if the player is put up for sale. Of course there's no guarantee that Sahin would choose to accept a permanent move to the club, but spending time with the manager and players certainly would help the odds in such a situation.

A loan for Sahin makes sense on several levels, even without a direct buy-out clause. Also, the talk of an initial loan fee is only coming from less reliable sources. Those that are generally accurate in reporting Liverpool matters make no mention of it.

Is it just me or was Stoke not as strong as previous seasons, they didn't really cause the normal sort of problems for most teams.

Missing Song from the midfield could be an issue as I feel Diaby is going to take a long time to even get close to where he should be playing.

Seven games without a win.

Still a tough one as they are always really up for this game. We've got to be strong, not be intimidated and play our game when we get the ball. I think Diaby and Giroud will start to give extra height defending set plays as well as attacking our own.

We just fleeced Liverpool.

Liverpool:
- Pay Real Madrid 5 mil
- Cover Sahin's entire salary
- Have NO buyback option on Sahin after one year

This is like highway robbery lol. Liverpool develop Sahin for us, pay us cash, save us money and have no recourse to keep the player. Wow.

congrats to Wenger for not taking this crap deal. If you're a real team, it makes absolutely no sense. This is something the West Ham's of the world usually accept Laughing

So they got Sahin for 5m?This is high risk. However if he played like he did with BVB it would be probably the best bargain of the summer.

AW: “If we wanted to sign Sahin, we would have done it.“Sahin is a quality player but he is not a purely defensive midfielder.."

And you know that he is right when he says that.

I wish I could ask Arsene, why was he interested in the first place? Laughing

He's a replacement for Alonso at Madrid. He played LB this preseason and bossed.... a very underrated defender. Very good at both Dortmund and the little i saw him at Madrid. Is he a DM or a destroyer? No. Is he a skilled B2B that can both defend and attack? Bingo.

Wenger is just spewing nonsense here.

Defensively better than Lass.

Guy seems like a great tackler who reads the game well and is at least relatively mobile, it's not like he's a defensive liability.

Lol he said purely. He didn't say he wasn't a good defender, calm down.
