He deserves, ( as does almost every player in the barcelona squad) to be named amongst the best players of his generation.

He has had an amazing career, and should be respected as on of the greatest defenders in history.

Maybe the best in spain's history, but im sure Fernando Hierro's fans would have something to say.

No what I meant is that he dribbled past them a few times when CR7 couldn't. Benz managed it a few times too but he ended up alone in the flanks.

They are great don't get me wrong but they seemed invincible because of CR7 yesterday, no more no less

Barcelona's defense looks a thousands times better with Puyol's pure force of balls and leadership qualities.

Definitely he's going to be the hardest guy to replace in Barcelona, by far.

That Puyol's biggest attribute, he has a Lion's heart, a true leader and gives his all to the club, walk over John Terry!

He isnt the best footballer, but manages to own those many attackers better footballers than him technically better, taller, faster than him, week in week out, this man is a legend!

I agree, Mercherano and some others have been brought into defense to replace him at times but just isnt the same. The record is something like when Puyol plays we have only lost once?

I was surprised when I saw Benz dribble him. I thought it was Pique.

Anyway, despite getting Dribbled a couple of times he was still pretty solid. Blocked some crosses and recovered possesion. Best Defender of the match, IMO.

For Puyol El Clasico has meaning more than to Ronaldo.Thats why he always perform well in such derby. As example look at Juventus.Last year they struggled against smaller teams but in derby matches they played like champions.

He has been inconsistent, no doubt. But, he was playing well towards the end. I think Del Bosque will stick with him.
