Zaragoza are one of the largest clubs in Spain (lol) Casillas felt sorry for them since they were fighting relegation last year.
He wanted to give them a shot without making it look too obvious

At 16 years old Casillias was called up to the biggest and best club in the world. 2 years later at 18 he made his debut in the biggest club in the world. :study:

He already has
Because he plays for a mid table PL side his exploits are not there for all to see so its my job to hype him into the stratosphere

Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
Clean sheet record, BTW.
Neuer is already "established". He's been great for several years now, but due to playing in fairly uknown Schalke, his "stardom" isn't at Casilla level yet.
Only after the World Cup and Schalke's CL run has he been given the recognition he deserves.
He's definitely at Casillas level, and will go beyond it IMO.

The very best goalkeepers have to be good with their feet. Neuer reckons that he could play midfield in Germany's third tier.
He was a one man brick wall in front of goal vs Dortmund last season. I remember them getting like 5 one v ones in the first half alone.
Neuer is the best GK in the world imo.

Oh, just stumbled into this thread. I really, really hope that Germany will win EC2012 and WC2014 - then all this stupid "Who's the best GK" will be laid to rest.
IMO Neuer will become better than Oliver Kahn (if he isn't already - but I think he can still improve in properly scaring the attackers in 1 on 1s, although he already did a good job in that in the first leg of the CL semi and against Bayern and Dortmund last BL season).

:lol!: just because a GK wins the WC or Euro doesn't mean he will be proclaimed the best in the world as soon as he wins it.

Oliver Kahn is my favourite player of all time but I agree Neuer might become even better than Oliver Kahn.
Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
Well, fact is that people always list what certain players have won with their club/NT to "prove" they are better than others. In my opinion Neuer is already at the very top with still room for further improvement, but people usually hold against him that "he isn't proven yet" or that "he hasn't won anything yet". So some team honours would silence those people, tooMagricos wrote: :lol!: just because a GK wins the WC or Euro doesn't mean he will be proclaimed the best in the world as soon as he wins it.

Madrid should get Neuer, he'll make Xabi Alonso obsolete.

it means something to the media and to the general public (i.e. retards). Whichever QB wins the Superbowl is automatically labeled as the best in the league no matter what. Broadcasters will say, "he's good, but he'll never be great if he doesn't win it all." They completely overlook those who have to manage with a horrible defense that gives up 35 points a game. Analysts of American football are literally the dumbest people on TV.
It's ridiculous, but these opinions exist.

Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
Clean sheets mean diddly squat when rating keepers IMO. Those numbers speak more of the defence than the keeper himself.
Saves per shots on goal is a more accurate stat to use.
Anyway Iker and Buffon have done it all as keepers and they've stepped up for their teams when they were really needed.
Iker is so highly rated because when gut check time comes along he delivers. When Git check time came for Neuer in the world cup he decided to stay at home instead of try to claim the corner kick Puyol scored from.
It's the little things that make your legacy which is why Cech will only really be remembered by Chelsea fans

Re: Manuel Neuer - The Playmaker Goalkeeper Fan Club
That's true. But then again Neuer's only 25 so he has plenty of time to cement his status in history. Then again, Casillas ain't old.
The clean sheets have been more defense than goalkeeping, but Neuer still pulls off plenty of wonder saves when he has to. Had a Casillas-esque match against Hoffenheim with Bayern having a bad day.
