McLewis wrote:For better or worse? It sometimes makes me sick when you see all these people "lost" in their phones. Was at a dinner for my store and I swear 8-10 people were on their phones. There was once a world where people lived without all of these things and they did just fine. How would some of you react if you had to give up your advanced technology for a month or so?
I'm really sorry if I come off sounding like a douche, I just wanted to put in my two cents.
R.I.P. Steve Jobs
Nothing to be sorry about, man.
Since I work in the tech industry, I know first hand what you're talking about it. That's the reality of how our species evolves however. There was also once a world where the height of technology was a aqueduct that brought in fresh water and fueled public baths that were as popular as nightclubs are today.
We're a forever evolving species. The world you're referring to, while nostalgic, was never going to last unfortunately. It's just the way we are.
In this case it is not the species that evolving, but rather the technology and age.
The scary thing is how fast it is getting, and how caught up some people are on it.
Getting caught up in the whole fad of buying is getting ridicilous. Also, the lack
of meaningful conversation rather the lack of physical conversation is what worries
me. We have meaningful conversations in this forum, but it is very difficult to have
such meaningful conversations by typing from your phone.
My 2 cents.

Re: Steve Job dies.
It depends on how you look at the technology. Some people use it excessively, I totally agree, I hate it when people have their air plugs in their ears all the time. But you can also see the good side. at least for me.
My iPhone helped me answer a very important question in my final Finance exam....and my final Spanish exam.
My iPhone helped me find something out very important on internet about a map on the subway (When it wasn't in the tunnel)
My iPhone gave me the chance to watch a Liverpool game on it live when theere was no TV at the place I was.
My iPhone helped me record some fantastic memories during my summer whether in shape of clip or pictures, which would not have been possible with a normal camera (well, I hate carrying solo cameras)
There has been occasions where I was genuinely pissed off, and just wanted to put those air plugs in my ears and listen to music in my iPod.
And I can come up with many many more examples of this.
Without Steve Jobs, those things would not have been possible. I also found his speeches, and thoughts on life very inspiring. For those reasons, I mourn his death. He helped me in my life style and I can't imagine life without my iPhone now.
Some people hated Apple and Jobs' guts though, so I understand why some wouldn't give a rats ass about his passing.

Ralph Steinman also died recently. Much more influential than Jobs will ever be but no one is talking about him because he isn't rich.

If you ask me, I would say Jobs is more influential than Steinman simply because he affected the culture of today. Apple also contributed a lot to the IT industry. And while Steinman was influential in biology and medicine, the true extent of his influence is still not discovered today.
Both died due to the same cause pancreatic cancer.
Also, I was happy the Nobel people agreed to give him the award posthumously.

Re: Steve Job dies.
^ ahahahahhaah, so you really think the reason Jobs' death is getting so much attention is his wealth? FOok me, I guess Donald Trumps death would be mourned even more then! After all he is richer. There is a reason people all around the world mourned MIchael Jackson and are doing the same with Jobs. Those people made a positive hang and impact in people life. As bill shankly would say: " they made people happy"

Re: Steve Job dies.
Jobs had a lot more money than Trump, actually.
If Trump were to die, I'd think most people would react with a "good riddance".

R.I.P to a great man. Ever since I've moved to Macbook and iPhone I've never looked back. PC users should thank this man too, the reason Microsoft even tries is becouse Mac is always there to challange them.

A quote I heard from BBC News:
"There are three apples that have changed the world. Adam's apple, Newton's apple and Steve Jobs' Apple."

Great innovator. Not a huge fan of apple products myself, but full props as he revolutionized the tech industry. Sad to hear this, I had actually done a paper for a class on him a year back. Well, not really a paper, it was a small assignment, but I have huge respect for the man, it's sad to see he's gone.
