Silvio Berlusconi believes AC Milan are better than Barcelona

AC Milan president Silvio Berlusconi insists his club are stronger than European champions Barcelona as he targets silverware in all competitions this term.

Berlusconi, who celebrates his 75th birthday on Thursday, is confident his men can win the Champions League following their 2-0 Group H win over Viktoria Plzen.

The Italian supremo believes his team can recapture past glories in Europe and finish ahead of group rivals Barcelona.

Milan have struggled to make an impact in the prestigious tournament in recent years and last season they crumbled in the last 16, losing to Premier League side Tottenham. But Berlusconi feels things are different now.

"This season we will win everything, we are stronger than Barcelona," he told Sky Sport Italia.

Milan last lifted the Champions League trophy in the 2006-07 campaign.

They drew with Barcelona without their best player, their best Traquesta, two of their best defensive midfielder, without their best LB, and without their best defensive player (Bonera)... at Barcelona's home... ofcourse we are better, are you people delusional :coffee:

My actual believe is that Barcelona are the best team in the world, however they are far from unbeatable and could be crippled using effective counter-attack and the uses of strength; a naive emulation of their game will not get you anywhere.

Don't play a high line, Barcelona through ball are deadly and if you play a high line they will score against you.

Play counter-attacking football, Barcelona biggest downfall is their best attribute, they attack in numbers, and should be weak to fast counter attacks.

Mark areas, Mark players. Have two defensive midfielders marking both of Xavi and Messi at all times; have them avoid serious tackles as Barcelona are able to make the best use of the referee.

Defend in numbers; make sure you keep atleast 6 players around the box when Barcelona are attacking.

Use muscle and height; Barcelona players are not very strong neither is tall, therefore use it to your advantage.

If you master the above strategies you will most likely not get beaten by Barcelona; but always be ready for the unexpected.

January? I really don't know as I doubt it, but Berlu is quite unpredictable. Next summer? I am sure of it.

The real point is that Berlusconi's recent criticisms have made him curb his spending simply because he would further be under scrutiny if he spents millions on a club while raking in dirty money from the country itself.

The scandal and fine he is due to pay is really not that much damage to his Multi-billion fortune but for his image and political reasons based on the scandal, italia's economy and himself, he had to make this move and disappoint us.

Many experts speculate this will be his last term as prime minister and will definitely spend once he is free of that burden.

There is also the case that Milan, historically prioritize the winter mercato more then the summer although I still hold my doubts.

The Milan board were scouting from SA to all over europe to find the right player while Raiola was in London working on a big deal while reliable sources say it was fabregas. Others that we did monitor were Eriksen, Pastore, Witsel, Modric, and of course Scwiensteiger.

The deal unfortunately had to be stalled due to economic reasons. Lets see how it pans out as B&G usually never disappoint.
