Marchisio: 'Conte is extraordinary'
Claudio Marchisio has praised Antonio Conte's character, stating that his new Coach's focus is the reason behind Juventus' newfound confidence.
“He has an extraordinary character and he's looking to get it across. On Sunday, despite the victory, he was angry at the goal we conceded,” revealed Marchisio of his new Juve boss.
“He's conveying quality of play to us, looking to always make us compact and focused. We needed someone who could give us that psychological release and now we should show the results of his work in every game, starting from next Sunday.”
Ahead of Juventus' trip to face newly-promoted Siena, the midfielder told Sky of his belief that the team's summer preparations have been key to their strong start to the season.
“After the final pre-season games where many were saying that we weren't ready, the match against Parma instead showed that the work we've done this summer in Bardonecchia, the United States and at Vinovo has been worthwhile.”
That game saw the Bianconeri secure a credible 4-1 win, with Marchisio netting the fourth goal, a mid-air lobbed effort over Parma 'keeper Antonio Mirante.
“I'd also be fine scoring scruffy goals. The most important thing is that they contribute to results.
“I must thank Andrea [Pirlo] for last Sunday's goal, he provided me with a superb pass.
“The manager asked Vidal and I to break forward as much as possible and that's exactly how the goals came about.”
Marchisio also reflected on seeing Italy teammate Pirlo's arrival and subsequent impact at the club.
“I'm happy to play alongside him. I was already pleased to play with him in the national side, here I'm even more delighted.
“Andrea doesn't need to be praised, we all know his qualities. He's a champion and thankfully there are also many others in our squad.”
Despite spending a majority of last season on the left-hand side of midfield, 25-year-old Marchisio also reiterated his desire to compete for a spot in the middle of the park.
“I've always said that I'm a central midfielder, just as I've always said that I'm willing to cover other positions, be it with Juve or the national side.
“It is particularly pleasing that the manager, from pre-season onwards, has decided to play me in my favourite role.”
Marchisio then looked ahead to the weekend's opponents Siena, and warned of complacency.
“It's games like the one against Siena which are important in order to stay at the top end of the table all the way through.
“They'll be at home, they'll have the crowd behind them and will be aggressive from the start.
“We'll need to do the same, looking to take the game to them from the very beginning.”
“After two seasons like the ones just gone it's natural there's fear that the victory against Parma could be a one-off, given that we also started well in the past couple of campaigns and then came unstuck.
“Now we've only got the championship to focus on and we'll be able to work during the week without interruptions, above all from the psychological point of view.”
