Frimpong/Coquelin?
Frimpong or Coquelin?
Song is obviously the first choice for a DM for us, given his experience.. But in case he is rested or unavailable, who'd you prefer to play as DM and why? The no non-sense Frimpong or the hard working Coquelin?
Personally, I would go for Frimpong because he loves Arsenal.. Passion counts for a lot.. But Coquelin gained a lot of experience during Lorient and has that advantage over Frimpong.. Whats your take?

Re: Frimpong or Coquelin?
Frimpong by far. Is much more aggressive and seems to be better built. His trolling is also great so he gets bonus points for that.
Coquelin just seems too passive for the role, IMO.

Has to be Frimpong at the minute. Brings English passion, physical strength to the role, but Coquelin I rate highly. Very impressive at Lorient last season.

Re: Frimpong or Coquelin?
Coquelin is boss, check out some footage from him at Lorient if you can. He was also the only bright spot in the United debacle.
Team Dench is boss too. And i read that we extended lansbury (i know not a DM) so we are MONEY in the future.
and honestly, all 3 of those guys can be wilshere-good for us or better. if we sell any of them i'll be pissed

Re: Frimpong or Coquelin?
I voted both lolz.
I'm leaning towards Frimpong cause he shows more passion for Arsenal, but its actually closer than people think. Coquelin is a fantastic talent, and he showed it against United even though we got mauled.

Re: Frimpong or Coquelin?
It's understandable that not many people rate Coquelin or rate Frimpong higher since not many have actually seen Coquelin play.
Both are actually very similar in style; small, quick and agressive tacklers. The difference between them is that Coquelin is more controlled with his aggression, while Frimpong has a tendancy to lose his head and make rash challenges.
Also, Coquelin is very very hard working and covers a lot of ground, which Frimpong doesn't really do - granted, he's not really been given the opportunity to show that he can do so. I've seen Coquelin play right back and right midfield for Lorient and for 90 minutes he just doesn't stop running. Very Flamini-esque, in that regard.
However, Frimpong is a better technical player, albeit not by much. Frimpong is deceptively good with the ball at his feet and can produce some good passes. Coquelin is a bit lacking technically.
I actually see Frimpong as a potential box-to-box or industrious midfield player like Vieira was, while I think Coquelin will excel if he plays purely defensive roles like Makelele. Note that I don't think either will be as good, just that their styles are similar.
As for who'd I prefer at the moment, I'd say Frimpong. Even though he has much less experience than Coquelin, he's integrated into the Arsenal; supports Arsenal, has been here for a long time, will play his heart out for Arsenal and has good relationships with fellow young players.
Unfortunately, I do think one will get shafted in the end if Song continues the way he is. If Song replicates the sort of performances against Dortmund more often, he'll be in that midfield for a very long time.

Re: Frimpong or Coquelin?
I feel that Song and Frimpong can co exist in the starting lineup for us. Song has a tendency to go forward, while Frimpong just hovers and destroys oncoming attack. A midfield of Song , Jack, and Frimpon is not as defensive minded midfield as ppl think.

Cameroon fans help me out in this if Im wrong. Song started off as the play maker for Cameroon? I am not sure if the still has that role in the team tho.

i have it the exact opposite. i think frimpong would do wonders just as the pure dm and coquelin would excel as the box-to-box type. that's what coquelin pretty much was at lorient, plus the advantage coquelin has over frimpong is a much greater passing range. he just hasnt had the chance to showcase it yet with us. coquelin's probably much more like wilshere, than a pure dm type. at least that how i see it

Re: Frimpong or Coquelin?
Both are still young and raw, I just hope the responsibility does not lie solely on Frimpong shoulder ( As Song replacement that's it). They can actually play together, I see Frimpong as b2b due to his energy ( does not equate non stop running though, Conquelin is more hard working) and bursting forward.
Frimpong's kinda fans favorite right now and overrated a bit, his passing is still atrocious at times, quite hot headed as well. Last year was Jack, this year it's Frimpong, I don't think he can mature at Jack's rate, 2 more years then he will probably be regular.

not a Cameroon fan, but no. he actually started as a defender when his much maligned namesake started declining.
on topic, i think this is a very tough contest. however, Coquelin for me seems more cool-headed. if we were still playing our passing game, him next to either song or wilshere would be hosome. but on another note, if we want to continue playing the way we have been promising to play this season, then im all for Frimpong and Song in the same line up. if we gonna be parking the bus, we might as well be dirty at it lol.

Re: Frimpong or Coquelin?
At the moment i go for Frimpong.. He needs to improve his passing.. And i have not seen much of Coquelin...
The happy news is that we can see Wilshere playing up front.. But he really excelled both in defence and as the deep playmaker...
about Arteta.. From these matches i see he plays deep and doesnt advance much.. It was Ramsey who played forward.. Was that his position in Everton ?

Re: Frimpong or Coquelin?
Mixed reviews I see
Here is the catch: Frimpong and Wilshere are 19, Ramsey and Lansbury 20, Song 24, Diaby 25.
Reserves : Ebecilio 17, Aneke 18, Coquelin 20, Eastmond 20, Henderson 19, Ozyakup 18, Niko Yennaris 18. [Miss anyone?]
For me its painfully obvious that we'll let some of these guys go. We can't possibly have 12 midfielders [not counting Diaby] for 3 midfield roles in the future. Who all do you think will make the cut?
My take: Wilshere and Ramsey are too good to leave. One of Frimpong or Coquelin will have to move on eventually in search of regular football (which prompted me to start this thread). Ebicilio-Aneke-Ozyakup is our holy trinity in the reserve squad. Wouldn't want any of them to leave. Which means Yennaris, Henderson and Eastmond would be on the move eventually.

Re: Frimpong or Coquelin?
I like both and therefore voted for both. But at the moment i choose Deeench instead of Coquelin. Both have got postive and negative points.
Frimpong at the moment is comfortable with ball and he is also build for PL because of his physique and his desire to play for arsenal. His main problem is his temperament.
Coquelin on the other hand is very hard working and he is also more experienced than Frompong. But he is less comfortable with ball and seems as if he is in rush when pass the ball.

yeah he's not really pure dm like people seem to think. he could really fill the 'wilshere' role right now if given the chance. not saying he's as good, but does alot of the same things as him

Lenear said what i wanted to say...
In my eyes they are different characters and can easily play in same formation.
While Frimpong is anchor, Coquelin can be a good B2B.
