Football is an incredibly bad business, one of the biggest money burners i know. The article also mentions Fifa Fair Play, its clear that if it actually goes as planned then it will be an enormous change in UEFA.

It is being reported that City will make a summer clear-out. This means:

1) Less wages for City to pay
2) Cheap quality players for whoever can get them - hopefully some EPL clubs.

I'm expecting a lot of clubs to start sorting themselves out in the summer, particularly Chelsea and City.
While City do have some good youth coming along, they aren't good enough yet and so that means that Chelsea will still be spending in the summer. Their squad isn't that big either, meaning selling players can only balance out a franction of what they're spending

not really... from the players on their payroll last year only jo, wright phillips and probably tevez and adebayor will leave, and surely at least two of them will be replaced by new signings... it's not like they're going to save millions tbh

City can always upload Boateng cheaply to Bayern. One wage less, some transfer fee for them and Bayern happy, too Very Happy

Well Rooneys on 250K a week as far as I know the second highest in the EPL is Yaya on 200K then Torrest on 180?

City? They have Joe Hart and Shay Given, both of whom are great goalkeepers. Given has not featured at all this season for City, which means that he will probably leave because he is more than good enough to be a starter for a CL team, not left on the bench.

In defense, there's Bridge and Onouha who both definitely need to leave.
In midfield, Johnson, Shaun-Wright-Phillips and Vieira are all expected to push for a move, or have left already.
In attack, there's Bellamy, Adebayor, Santa-Cruz and Tevez who will all most likely leave.

Thats 10 players that will most likely leave. A lot of players, you see, and some of them have very high wages

yeah but still, i'd imagine the starting lineups have roughly similar wages but then city were signing backup players by throwing money at the likes of barry and lescott, didn't think that salaries of utd backup players were that high

yes, and bridge, onuoha, bellamy, adebayor and santa cruz were all out on loan for at least half of the season so their wages didn't really contribute to the massive loss

and as for the rest, given would have to be replaced by a signing so i can't imagine a massive saving there, same goes for tevez and johnson... pretty much the only players who can leave freely and not be replaced by new players are vieira and wright phillips tbh

also jo, if he's still playing for them lmao

Stuart Taylor is actually a very good 2nd keeper. If they let Given go, he can easily fill in. Its not like Given even featured this year, so thats going to make it an easy decision...from the way I see it, at least.

As for the loans, its not as if the clubs pay the full wages. They've had 5 players go on loan, 2 for half-seasons and 3 for full seasons. Getting rid of all five of them would : 1) Generate money (obviously) and 2) Have the same effect as getting rid of 2-3 players on full wages.
That alone might free up maybe 8 million in wages.
Its not that much when you consider how much they are paying in total, but its a start. Combined with some of the other player departures (Given, Vieira, SWP, Tevez, Johnson) that would free up quite a lot.
Of course, everything after that depends on how City would act in the transfer market. If they buy players, but have a proper wage-structure then they would succeed in lowering their wages. If they give everyone Toure-style contracts then its just going to make everything worse.

i don't think it's possible for them to have any kind of a wage structure... i mean even if they sign cheaper replacements for tevez etc it's not like they'll agree to having much smaller wages than players with similar status in the club, same goes for the backups...

Its easy to say city will offload players . But who will pay wages for those player which they are on at city . No one is going to pay the likes of Bellemy and Santa cruz 80 k so they will find it virtually impossible to find buyers .

I think you guys are looking at this in the wrong perspective, the higher your wages, the more you win. If city wants to stay top 4 in the future they need to spend the high wages they already do.

I think this FFP future is going to happen more in an Arsenal style for EPL clubs, lower transfer fees (lower amortisation) but high wages.
