Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
Anyone have the stats on all time top record goalscorers for 1 season?
I heard it was Dixie Dean with 60+? I know someone posted them on these forums a while back but I can't find it.

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
I had said at the beginning of the season that if we win La Liga and CL I would consider Messi the best ever ahead of Cruyff.I still stand by that.
If we win CL,I would place him level with Cruyff.
Right now I would argue that he is more lethal than Cruyff ever was.Messi is the most lethal player i have ever seen.
But I still rate Cruyff a bit higher because he was smarter than Messi is and knew exactly how to play in any particular game.
Messi doesnt to the same extent.

Cool. You had to be at a considerable age to have been actively watching him.
I barely managed to watch Van Basten. Wish I had seen Cruyff. His videos are really great to watch

Knowing my buddy Francise Im not allowed to be OT so, realistically how many games does Messi have left to set the new world record of scoring the most goals in a season?

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
I am surprised no one has yet mentioned the great goal he scored.
Has he made genius look so mundane that we dont even care to comment any more.A nutmeg and a beautiful chip, all in 2 touches.
A supreme goal and yet it has become so common that we are not enthusiastic about it any more.
Its as free mentioned.Romario scored maybe 1 chip goal a season.Messi scores tens so we dont even find it interesting now.
Just a freak of nature.

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
Exactly. Wasnt even mentioned because for him, its just another goal, the ease in which he does it.
But yeah, it deserves reliving.

A question dani.
Where do you see him play for us in 5 years time.
Still false 9 or do you see him play CM?

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
In 5 years he will be 29 right?
I think it depends on who we have in our squad, the coach, how he entire team is playing and so on.
If the midfield behind him is still the best in the world then I think he will still be where he is now.
That unless a new coach makes unforeseeable changes.
If the midfield behind him isnt the best, or not good enough, then I still dont see him in center midfield. Rather a true number 10 with a number 9 in front of him.

Interesting.A 10 in a 4-2-3-1 perhaps or a 10 in a 3-4-3 with a real number 9 in front of him.
For arguments sake, wouldnt you agree that in such scenario his role would pretty much be the same as it is now.
Granted he would have a true number 9 in front of him whereas now there is none. But the role wouldnt be much different.
Even now he spends 80% of the time in between the lines. His goal numbers should suggest he isnt a number 10 but strictly going by how he plays for us,I would say he is.
I hear all the time the comparison with Cruyff and the false 9 role.
But Cruyff didnt spend as much time in between the lines as Messi does.
Nowhere close.I would say messi is more of a 10 than Cruyff was.
And if asked the question,Is messi a 10 or a false 9 I would say he is a 10.
And before anyone asks how can he be a 10 when he has no one in front of him,i realize the conundrum too!!!!!!!!!!

Re: 'The Messiah' - Lionel Messi
Yeah, pretty much the same. Though a real 9 in front of him would probably mean a few more final passes (like there isnt enough now lol) and maybe less goalscoring chances.
But yeah, I am with you on your overall point. I dont think his game which change that much as he ages, only his mentality perhaps.
