The tragedy of Giovani Dos Santos
Giovani Dos Santos, a Barcelona product that has been outstanding and has recieved acollades and prizes both from the International level and Club level, has been denied his exit from Tottenham Hotspur.
His full "participation" in Tottenham since he arrived:
-10 League games, 8 as a substitute, twice withdrawn on both starts
-Total of 223 league minutes or two and a half games
-155 minutes played in Tottenham at the start of last season or 1.7 games, this includes Carling Cup, Champions League (which cup tied him) and EPL
All this in 3 years...
Those last figues on the start of last season were especially frustrating, considering Giovani had just had a good world cup (runner up for best young player) and a fantastic preseason scoring goals and getting some brilliant assists. Manager Harry Redknapp assured Giovani he would have a chance to crack the starting team that season and asked him not to leave, Giovani stayed and Harry kept him at the bench...
A season has passed since then and Dos Santos had an excellent loan spell on ailing Racing Santander where he impressed both the team, the fans and the press, Giovani appeared on La Ligas revelation 11. The then manager or Racing, now manager of Sevilla, Marcelino Garcia Toral wanted Dos Santos bad enough, he made 12 bids to Tottenham including one last final one for 5.5 Million plus another .5 million based on appearances but Tottenham dismissed this final bid.
Mr. Redknapp has now gone to the press and said Giovani will have a chance to prove himself to be worthy of his 21 man squad, we already know how hollow his words are and Giovani faces a difficult 6 months ahead of him, where he will be lucky to see the bench even. Gio has two long years left on his contract, when it expires he will be sure to leave White Heart Lane pennyless (preferrably joining Arsenal just to rub it in).
The negligence of Harry Redknapp is baffling to me, it almost seems as if his mission is to destroy this young exciting players career as much as he can. Not even a loan spell is bad for both Tottenham and the other club like Sevilla, devaluing the price of a player which they never use, what the hell does Redknapp have in his mind? He could never bench favored Lennon, not even for the most talented winger in his squad (My opinion of course).
Here are some of Dos Santos individual awards:
-2005 U-17 World Cup silver ball (Anderson gold ball, Sahin Bronze ball)
-2007 U-20 World Cup bronze ball (Aguero gold ball)
-2009 Gold Cup MVP
-2010 World Cup runner up best young player

Unfortunate that he couldn't find a home this summer.
It's worth noting that his attitude, demeanor, sense of entitlement has always been god awful.

An example of what Europe can do to some players who aren't strong enough.
I was hoping he'd go to Southern Europe this Summer but now it looks like it's bench time yet again.

He was 18 young and stupid, he saw some problems brewing at Barcelona and bailed along with his mentor Ronaldinho. Really bad move on his part.

He's gotten better now at least. Don't know if it will save him though.

Harry told the press last season his attitude had improved dramatically. Of course he has made many mistakes but then again good managers like Wenger know that young players are... young and do stupid things.

Re: The tragedy of Giovani Dos Santos
unfortunately this is what happens when you join spurs and probably the reason why alot of players turn them down
its not really a club going places yet their player turn over is ridiculous
added to that they dont play CL football and buy players for significant money then bench them and then try and sell them for similar if not more 2-3 years later
they have ruined a number of careers in the last 3-4 years
waste of space club lol

Kevin Prince Boateng, Taarabt.... The list is already very large, what the hell is going on there? It's not like Spurs have oil money to let WC talent rot away and go.....

Re: The tragedy of Giovani Dos Santos
Redknapp is never the manager to identify talent and bring the best out of them despite the media hype.He only picks his favourites Kranjar situation is worse than Dos Santos.Remember how he alienated Bent so that he can play his favourites crouch and Defeo ahead of him.How the likes of Lennon plays ahead of them is mind boggling.

Because Spurs are quoting 10mil fee(12 euros) for him.No one would pay that stupid fee.

How Gio doesn't play is beyond me. He's better than Lennon and Bale. People think that Bale is amazing because he had a good game against an unfit Maicon when Inter were already 4-0 up and had given up trying. It's a joke. And Lennon only plays because he has pace, his final ball is shocking, surely he would be better suited coming on as a sub in the 70th minute or so and running at tired full backs.

Pretty much agree x many. I love watching this kid play for Mexico, under a good coach I see no reason why he couldn't progress and become a good player.

People are so easily forgetting that he hasn't done jack shit in Europe ever. Like absolutely nothing. Hell no, I wouldn't give him a game over Bale and Lennon.

And what have Lennon and Bale done? Nothing. Besides that one game that Bale had against Inter. Gio is one of Mexico's best players, if not the best, and was instrumental in them progressing in the world cup and gold cup. Meanwhile Lennon is a bit part player England and has never done anything noteworthy. And the only reason Bale is Wales' best player because he's the only one who's even half way decent, their best CB is Danny Gabbidon FFS!

Not Harry's job to give an f about international careers, which is what you're entire post is about...aford92 wrote:And what have Lennon and Bale done? Nothing. Meanwhile your post was about what he has done in Europe despite the fact that Lennon and Bale have done nothing. Also of course it's his job to see how his players do on international duty, if Gio can do well in a World Cup why couldn't he do well in the league?
