Re: Our Squad
Markovic is actually great defensively, he was always tracking back and hard working for Benfica too, maybe LWB isn't such an odd place for him after all?
The team when Sturridge gets back:
-------------Jones----------------
--Toure----Skrtel----Sakho------
Hendo--Cou---Lucas---Markec/Moreno
-Raheem-Sturridge-Lallana-----

Re: Our Squad
It's not a bad set-up. It's also easy to switch the triangle at the top to a 1-2 with any of Sterling, Coutinho or Lallana playing the 10 behind Balotelli and Sturridge together. I think ideally, if everyone is healthy:
Or maybe put Lucas at Hendo's midfield spot and Henderson in over Lallana on the right midfielder. Either way. Watch out.
Toure - Lovren - Sakho
Lallana - Coutinho - Henderson - Markovic
Sterling
Sturridge - Balotelli

Re: Our Squad
These players are leaving for sure:
Gerrard , Toure, Johnson, Borini, Aspas, Assaidi, Jones, Suso
These players may leave as well:
Coates, Wisdom, Enrique, Lucas, Alberto, Teixeira
These aren't welcome anymore:
Mignolet, Manquillo, Skrtel, Lovern, Allen
That leaves Flanagan, Sakho, Ilori, Moreno, Emre, Henderson, Lallana, Coutinho, Ibe, Markovic, Raheem, Balotelli, Sturridge, Lambert, Origi.

Re: Our Squad
Manquillo doesn't belong in the "Not Welcome anymore" section.
Though you could put Balotelli and Lambert in that category.
Agree with the rest.

Re: Our Squad
I think it's early to put Balotelli or Lovren in the not welcome section though Lambert could go there, but otherwise the list looks about right. Hoping Coates stays I think he could still develop into something useful -- the potential is there anyway.
Strikers
Sturridge
Sterling?
Balotelli
Origi
AMs
Sterling?
Coutinho
Lallana
Markovic
Ibe
CM/DMs
Henderson
Can
Lucas
Fullbacks
Flanagan
Moreno
Centrebacks
Sakho
Lovren
Ilori
Coates
I don't really need to address the keeper depth. I'm hoping this summer (not much hope for the winter) we can add to our midfield, fullbacks and maybe a CB or two.

Re: Our Squad
My post was incomplete or not clear I guess. What I wanted to state is that we have just 15 players who are widely deemed as worthy to be in our squad.
This is considering our short-term goal is regular CL qualification and long-term goal is regular title contention. Also, FIVE of these players are still of unproven pedigree.
So if we are serious about our goals (both the short and the long one), the brick-by-brick approach hasn't and will not work. We need to demolish the squad and bring in 7-8 appropriate players in one window. I think James posted something like this too.

His contract ended so we parted ways, as in i guess it wasn't extended. Pretty much confirmed by Echo, not a rumor.

Re: Our Squad
Is anyone else really worried that Cou and Sterling still can't score goals?
They play as a pair behind DS as part of a attacking three, and they really lack finishing ability. If they don't develop their finishing, what would you guys like to see change in our attack?
Personally i think they both will improve their finishing in the next couple of seasons, but if they didn't i'd love to see Cou used as a CM and then add a player who can finish upfront as a SS or AM as Cou is now.

Re: Our Squad
They score all right in the box, but we really could do with more of the kind of goals Coutinho scored against Bolton, shooting from the edge of the box. Even that shot seemed to take a deflection that helped it be so perfect. So, yeah, it's a problem that our AMs don't shoot enough / well enough from outside of the penalty area.

Re: Our Squad
I don't have any numbers, but it definitely seems like both Sterling and Cou shoot enough. They just seem to always shoot at the keeper though, or into a bunch of players. I think the both of them just need a little more composure in front of goal. They both seem to shoot in a haste when a chance presents itself.

Re: Our Squad
We've turned reliant on a 19 year old and 21 year old ffs.
They're still both young and fairly inexperienced.
More maturity, more experience from more games under them and they'll be fine.

Kind of an interesting article. I especially like the bit about Coutinho:
Kind of an interesting article. I especially like the bit about Coutinho:
He may not have given the best account of himself against Tottenham, perhaps due to fitness concerns ahead of kick-off, but Philippe Coutinho has shone in recent months. After an excellent pre-season campaign the Brazilian looked short of form early on in the Premier League season. He is now in full, mesmerising flow. Up to and including their last defeat to United, the 22-year-old had a meagre rating of just 6.70 from WhoScored.com from 13 appearances. From that point, his rating has soared to a magnificent 7.88, having seen his formerly lowly average figures for through balls (0.1), key passes (0.6) and shots (1.7) leap to 0.8, 2.4 and 3.3 respectively.

Re: Our Squad
Why do we always lack depth??? I remember last season too we faced this problem. True, with Lallana, Balotelli, Ibe etc.; we have some sort of cover in the attack, but the defense & midfield is bare as always.
