Who is better than Pele?

How about Gerd Mueller? He played in Europe, 2nd top-scorer in the history of the EC/CL (second only to Raul who has played almost twice as many games). 68 goals in 62 matches for Germany says it all about his goal-scoring abilities.. More WC goals than Pele and he only played 2 WCs. Won 3 CLs with Bayern, several league titles while the Bundesliga was in its prime and a European Player of the Year award. Plus, he has scored around 200 more unofficial goals. 7 top scorer awards in 9 years. Maybe he's not a better "player" or more "complete", but he is certainly a better scorer than Pele. After all, he was voted the best scorer of the 20th centur.

Or maybe Puskas with the Mighty Magyars? The team that lost only once in 6 years.

Do not include Maradona in this thread. He is a whole different issue.

In all seriousness Roberto Baggio + Zidanne. They deserve to be up with Maradonna and Pele, particularly Pele.

Typical manc biais here but there is a reason Pele said Georges Best was the best player he has ever seen and that Maradona had him as his idol.

Maybe that is biased, however George Best is certainly in my top 10 ever. Maybe even top 8...

Gerd Mueller is a legend of his own. Extremely underrated player. He was not flashy, not very creative and had some funny balance, but Goddamn if he could score goals!

Compared to Pele, I'm not sure because he's nowhere near as complete but I say you can put him in the same caliber because he does have hundreds of official goals, and all over Europe, not just Brazil.

on topic messi can be the best ever. scores more than strikers, assists more than midfielders. you can not find another player like this. if you consider wc titles nobody is going to beat pele's titles

No player will be in the "best ever" conversation if they can't get NT results when playing for a powerhouse nation... once that happens, he belongs in the conversation. For now, Messi is a legendary club player.

Marco Van Basten,if not for his injuries,would've been arguably the greatest of all time. I have seen plenty of full games of him playing. He was absolutely stunning. His finishing would make an oger smile.

just an observation, but every time i see Messi mentioned as the greatest ever or among the greatest ever in a post, i look at the user's avatar and sig and almost always there's something argentina or barcelona related.

not drawing any conclusions here (i'll leave that for you to do), im just stating what i've noticed.
