Re: Rival thread
Yes, well, Villa have conceded 1.47 goals per an away game while City have scored 3.35 goals per a home game, so I'd imagine Villa are going to have to score if they are to get anything from the match.

Congrats to City... glad we finally grew the balls to aim for the top. Let's hope for the same next season.

So who are we competing against mainly this season?
I'm feeling adventurous this morning. I say City for the title.

Keep pace with Chelsea, Arsenal as long as you can. United and Spurs are at the same level as us.

Re: Rival thread
I think we're better than Arsenal this season.
The way things are looking, and until Klopp can prove otherwise, we're not going to compete for the title until we can prove consistency against the bottom table teams that pack up against us. That's where teams like Arsenal, City and Chelsea will pick up a lot of ground on us if we let them. The big games are no problem Klopp knows how to get the team ready for those.
I think City will probably win the title, and then there will be a big battle for the 2 - 7 spot. I would consider us favourites along with Arsenal and United to make the top 4, though Chelsea could easily make that hairy for any of us 3. Everton and Tottenham are up for it this season as well though and have capable managers. They're the long shots.
Still, those are the 7 teams I think that are competing with eachother.

Re: Rival thread
You got to be kidding me saying right now if we look better or worse than anyone
City play like a machine and they will most likely somehow manage to gain points against all the small teams.
Then Arsenal with Sanchez, Özil, Cazorla and Xhaka plus their better defense will be better than us in terms of consistency and results.
That leaves us fighting for 3-6 positions. I think Klopp will improve the results against smaller teams in this season. But I still think ManUtd, Chelsea and Spurs have equally capable team of finishing ahead of us.
The only factor which might play in favour of us is other teams have deal with Europe. I think it wil specially affect Arsenal and Spurs. Spurs already face injury problems and knowing the history of Arsenal, they also might face injury problems.
Tbh, more can be said about it once we are through 10 league games of the season.

Nope. We still have no freaking clue about our midfield for a start
Well Spurs and Everton are above us in the table. What does that tell you?

Re: Rival thread
You should positively be finishing above Chelsea and ManU this season.
I would even go so far as to say that it will be Arsenal and Liverpool for #2, if only we could fix our issues. If we don't then I maintain that on paper, Klopp should be able to finish as high as 2.

The Rival Thread in Arsenal section was my creation btw. You guys should give me some credit for influencing your section long before I came around.

That said, what a week for Liverpool. Practically everyone above you dropped points and that jammy win looks so much better in that context!

Re: Rival thread
Let’s overview the reminder of the Premier League and see how it might shape-up come May. Chelsea wouldn’t be part of this as I expect them to collect 30-odd points and wrap-up the title with couple of games to spare.
Manchester City seemingly has a tough run. Among the fellow contenders; they have games against United, Liverpool (both at home), Arsenal and Chelsea. In addition; they have potential banana-skins against Sunderland, Middlesbrough (both away), Hull, Palace and Leicester.
Tottenham Hotspur, by contrast, only has Arsenal and United and both at home. That home game against Everton and the one at Turf Moor might be quite intriguing too. However, their main challenge would be to see-off struggling teams like Palace, Swansea, Leicester, WHU and Hull (all away).
Is this the season when Arsenal finally relinquishes the fourth-place trophy? In addition to games against fellow contenders Liverpool, Spurs (both away) and the Manchester clubs; they challenging fixtures against Stoke (away) and Everton. Finally, there are those fighting for their PL lives; Palace, Middlesbrough (both away), Leicester and Sunderland.
It’s still not clear if Liverpool has recovered from their January nightmare, sparsely placed games may prove their boon. While they have their own set of top-four six-pointers against Arsenal, Everton (both at home) and City; their true pedigree will be evident in home games against Burnley, Bournemouth, Palace and Middlesbrough.
Manchester United has done very well in recent months, a trend coinciding with benching Fellaini and starting Mkhitaryan. They haven’t had much luck against fellow contenders, so games against City, Arsenal, Spurs (all away), Everton and Chelsea don’t bode too well for them. Top that off with away games with Burnley, Sunderland and Middlesbrough.
