Silvestre on his way to Palermo



Catania have confirmed that they are on the verge of selling Matias Silvestre to Sicilian rivals Palermo.

“There are just a few small details to resolve,” Catania director Pietro Lo Monaco told Rete Rete 24.

“Those will be discussed next week when I have a meeting planned with Palermo sporting director Sean Sogliano and President Maurizio Zamparini.”

Silvestre, 26, is a versatile stopper who joined the Sicilian side in January 2008 after six years with Boca Juniors.

“The player has given a lot to Catania and that is why we are doing all that we can to meet his desire to play in European competitions with a club like Palermo,” added Lo Monaco.

“After Thiago Silva of Milan, he is the best central defender in our championship. Palermo will certainly take a step up in quality with him.”

The Argentine, who has also been paired with Milan, Genoa and Juventus this summer, is valued at around €8m by Catania.
