So three MLS-clubs in top 3 spots of Leagues Cup and qualifications to 2024 CONCACAF Champions Cup. Inter Miami gets straight to R16 spot, Nashville SC and Philadelphia Union getting to the first round. The tournament was a resounding success, and has been an absolute win for MLS as a league, but nightmare result for Liga MX.

Yeah that's a body blow for Liga MX. They've dominated CONCACAF club competitions for some time now, yet I always felt MLS would eventually turn that around. I don't watch the league anymore myself and have no real urge to now, but the speed of this power shift is a bit startling.

What about TV ratings? Has there been a significant Messi bump?

Boosted Apple TV+ subscription rates by 75%, pushing their total number of subscribers to over 1 million. Also drew 1.75 million viewers on Univision in Mexico for his debut.

Miami does it again in a dramatic fashion. The last placed team beats the league leaders FC Cincinnati 3-3 (4-5) to reach US Open Cup final. Messi with couple assists, including for the last minute equalizer. In the final they will play Houston Dynamo in Miami 27th of Septemper.

Inter Miami has now won 8 in a row since Messi joined, granted 3 of them being in SO's. Although you can start to see them to be visibly exhausted, playing so much, so I wonder how long can they hold.

Not in the bottom of the league anymore. Miami beats New York Red Bulls for Messi's MLS opener 0-2. Messi came in 60th minute and scored a beauty of a goal. 11 games to go and 11 (8 if the win their game on hand) points from qualification to post season.

Nashville steal first points from Miami parking the double decker, still 10 games undefeated. Gap decreases though to 10 points because Chicago loses, and Miami has still 2 games on hand.

It's hilarious to me that Miami is doing so well with Messi fully embracing Walkessi. He is doing absolutely nothing off the ball, completely stationary at times, and yet they just beat the reigning MLS champions in their own stadium. Shows the level of the league.

Damn that's a huge win. And because Chicago lost, the difference is now 8 points with two games on hand. That's doable except more than half of the starting line up including two best players, Messi and Callender have been called up on international duty. And there's no international break so they're going to miss at least a game. I mean whos bright idea is that? Laughing

Absolute last place before Messi joined. It was the summer break or something like that in MLS, although they did play Leagues Cup during that anyway.

Miami beat Sporting Kansas City 3-2, and because DC United drew, the difference is now just 6 points with 2 games on hand. Qualification is almost in their own hands with 8 games to go.

Interless Messi got thumped 5-2 and lost their first game in 12. Luckily all the six teams before the play-off spot drew their game so the dream is still very much alive. 7 games to go, 6 points, 1 game on hand.

Some news around the league...

https://montrealgazette.com/sports/soccer/mls/club-de-foot-montreal/mls-investigating-after-cf-montreal-player-barred-from-amateur-league

Montreal FC player Matko Miljevic felt like he was not getting enough minutes with the first team so he subscribed to a sunday league in the suburbs to stay in shape, and he played a few games there under the fake name Matko Milojevic Laughing how come nobody recognized him is beyond me Laughing

It's gets even weirder because that guy got banned for life from his sunday league after knocking out an opponent in a brawl... only then they realized who he was and communicated with the MLS club. And now he's also facing MLS suspension because MLS has rules against playing in another league (duh)

It was fun while it lasted, fit Messi that is, as Messiless Miami lost the Open Cup final to Houston 1-2 at home. In the league hope is still alive, but I wonder if Messi needs to come on the field with a wheelchair to make it happen.

Funny how 75K fans in Atlanta paid tickets to see Messi but he did not show up to avoid playing on turf (yes turf like they use in NFL lol)

My local club also in playoff race i hope we play a sudden death match against Miami and eliminate them, it would be an honor.
