In Liverpool's case, it's not really about their general spending. Currently, Milan is doing the same kind of cheap but smart buys. The difference is that Liverpool can keep these players because they have a higher salary structure (not extravagantly so), but also because the PL is where it's at, so it's easier to keep players around.

In contrast, nearly every great player we build wants either a ridiculous wage that breaks our entire structure, or goes out to another team. Neither the name of the team or the league commands any respect or attachment from the players. This makes it hard to build a team when others will just come in a poach your talent (similar to what was happening to Arsenal before.

Milan and Liverpool is simply incomparable, Liverpool rakes in so much more thanks to PL TV deal+matchday revenue (I know COVID stifled attendance, but Milan doesn't even have a stadium), Liverpool can go on to purchase VVD and Alisson for a combined €150m like its chump change, meanwhile we barely managed to afford Tomori's €28m fee and are scraping with 2 year loans+opzione and obligaziones with the rest of our signings.

I cannot stress how vital it is to win some CL games for us (better yet would be to qualify to the next round, which i do not foresee happening) especially since CL money is distributed on a pro-rata basis based on CL co-efficiant rankings (currently we are in Pot 4, which does not bode well) Atalanta for example, managed to only get €3.3m for from the CL TV pool, whilst Inter got around €16m.

€2.7m worth of performance bonuses will be paid out for each match. Where a team wins, they receive the full €2.7m (with the losing team receiving nothing). Where two teams draw, both teams receive €900,000 each and the remaining €900,000 is pooled and redistributed among all clubs playing in the group stage in amounts proportionate to their number of wins.

In any case, qualifying for next year's CL is also vital, its not just a lifeline - its make or break for the big clubs

My point is that Liverpool, can easily go to market if they need to and splash on a player, whereas we are restricted by our finances, Ibizaman and FFP (we go suspended from EL the other season)

I do not get the impression that ES thinks Liverpool can spend without repercussion, just the compared buying power of either team.

Though I'll admit, Liverpool's buying power isn't exactly grand either but I'll quicker see them purchase a 40-50 million player than Milan.

i guess its nothing new about simeone atletico that they will be aggressor when they need to be but will their players will fall to the ground with minimal touch.

seems 7 years has changed a lot for milan, gone are the days when u see a game fought hard but fair. nowdays just dive a lot and surround ref to get other players out of the game...

Even after the red, we were comfortably better. Missed several chances, and fluffed several good attacks with bad decisions or poor dribbles (Leao, Rebic, and Diaz were all guilty of that). This might come to bite us in the ass when Atletico start laying siege in the next half as the players tire out.

Kessie was playing well below par for the entire season, and he got away with it, but it caught up with him in this match. He was easily our worst player even before he got the red. The fact that he was idiotic enough to continue as usual despite being on a yellow was stupid.

That being said, it is unusual for a ref to give two yellows in the first half of a game without even verbally warning the player.

With Liverpool winning against Porto, it is clear that the second place of the group depends heavily on this match, so we need to suffer and defend like hell.

kessie should have known this better like if he is on yellow .. llorente and other atletico players will do everything to get him carded. and that llorente did. it wasnt even worth a yellow but foul is a foul its upto ref.
