Re: The US Politics Thread
As for SCOTUS, it's gotten worse today:
US Supreme Court rules website designer can refuse to serve same-sex couples https://t.co/2TAJwg2Qy5
— BBC News (World) (@BBCWorld) June 30, 2023
Coming to to an American storefronts near you: "We don't serve gays here."...."No gays allowed"......"Husbands and Wives only".....
WASHINGTON (AP) — Supreme Court strikes down Biden's plan to wipe away $400 billion in student loan debt. pic.twitter.com/eWxSK0ti5Q
— philip lewis (@Phil_Lewis_) June 30, 2023
Keep in mind a couple of things:
- Justice Sam Alito accepted gifts from a billionaire who lobbied for this result. That's textbook corruption.
- Prominent conservatives arguing against forgiving these student loans took out PPP loans themselves during the pandemic. Those loans were forgiven because they wrote the legislation that way. Essentially, they gave themselves a loan, at the US taxpayer's expense, in order to protect their businesses during the pandemic yet when those same taxpayers ask for forgiveness on their student loans, it becomes about "personal responsibility" and "you took out the loans, you pay them back". Fuck all of them.

The data in this article suggests black females have the same social mobility as white females. That is not to say that they don't face any hurdles at all as women of color but the outcomes are comparable.
"Black and white girls from families with comparable earnings attain similar individual incomes as adults."
So more importantly I think that the social perception of black men being potential criminals has to change no? To really attack the problem at its core, treat the symptom not the disease

Using Harvard again as an example, one lawsuit claimed that they attributed values like "bravery" far less often to Asians than other races.

NEW: The Republican debate has been an absolute beatdown on Chris Christie.
— Collin Rugg (@CollinRugg) December 7, 2023
Christie had to sit through 30 seconds of the brutal truth from Megyn Kelly after she reminds him how unliked he is compared to Donald Trump.
Then he got bodied by Vivek Ramaswamy who told him to leave… pic.twitter.com/pTt3omzjub
Republican debates are entertaining as fuck, love seeing the corporate establishment pick get roasted like this.

Haley needed Christie to be the white knight most of that debate as well. Wasn't her strongest night, but she's still probably the frontrunner of this group yet still way behind Trump.
You're right though, very entertaining.

Re: The US Politics Thread
It's unthinkable that both parties can't bring another candidate. Trump's presidency was a sitcom, he committed fraud that almost got him jailed and initiated an insurgency. As for Sleepy Joe he looks very old and weak, almost like a zombie or a puppet.
Like do you prefer a punch in the throat or a kick in the balls... am i missing something because from an non US citizen point of view it makes no sense 2 terrible candidates

It's quite ironic for a party that call themselves Democratic to not even hold debates, i guess they're just hoping Trump miraculously loses to Biden.

Such is the reality of the 2-party system. Citizens United killed any power the single American voter had.
Unless we return to ranked-choice voting, we're stuck between shitty and shittier options. Both parties (via the corporations and billionaires that own them) have a vested interest in ensuring that doesn't happen. American democracy is an illusion.
