the situation is already sour. Barto and this board also don’t want to be remembered for causing Messi to leave Barca. Their strategy now is to say he left when his contract ended or we received the biggest transfer fee ever for him. This has become a matter of pride and there is not a single person in Barcelona thinking « sheesh we can rebuild faster if Messi leaves now » lmao. Whether you are pro Barto or not, Messi leaving is not something you want, period.

Like some have said, no point keeping a player who doesn't want to be at the club. Barcelona will benefit a lot from his sale, not only from a transfer fee but more importantly his salary. Forget about his release clause though. Nobody will pay €700m, not even for a 21 year old Messi with 4 years on his contract. A figure of around €150 million is plausible and there are clubs that can afford it. A player + cash deal would do too (Bernardo Silva + cash would be great coup for Barça).

With Messi gone, Fartomeu and his crew will be gone too. This would be a complete restart for the club, and one I would argue Barça direly needs more than they need Messi right now, especially with the cash flow problems the club are dealing with at the moment.

If Messi is convinced to stay, it should be for a good reason. If he wants to leave because his amigos are being pushed out of the club, so be it. No player should be bigger than the club. Not even Messi.

What we have seen so far is that all contracts have remained binding despite COVID. If your contract was ending in June this summer, you would have negotiated a special deal with your club to stay or you would have left. Extension of the season does not automatically extend one player’s contract. Messi can argue his case in court but he will lose. And beside, how long before they go in front of TAS or a judge to discuss that, with a few months left on his deal? If I’m Barto I don’t move an inch until I get a transfer record fee. If the date is hard coded, and there is nothing in the contract setting out the intention of the date, then arguing about why it was chosen is a fool's errand. If the intention was to choose a date following the end of a season, it's very easy to create the concept in the wording and have reference to that concept. Contracts usually also include wording that the document itself contains the full extent of the agreement between the parties, so an appeal to discussions and negotiations will also end in the same place.

Massi is gone, he has made up his mind. I just think he is hoping he kills two birds with one stone. He gets one last gift to Barca on the way out by dethroning Barto.

Barca is in major overhaul and i do not expect any titles or anything in next 1-2 seasons. That is 1-2 season too much for Messi at his age. It would do good to both Barca and Messi if he leaves. I just hope we get some money in return.
