Re: PC Master Race
Most RTX 3080 were tested against RTX 2080 Ti FE wich 30% advantage for the former but 2080 Ti can be clocked to 2GHz easily which RTX 3080 cannot sustain. The real difference is the then just 20% or less

The industry standard is to factory overclock chips more and more, long have gone the 2500k's, and companies aren't afraid anymore of producing crashes as Ampere has shown.

Re: PC Master Race
The rumor is that AMD is introducing on-chip 128MB cache with Big Navi, which with paired with only 256bit memory bus, should be enough for 4k gaming, and be very fast. Thus could be the reason for the weirdness why Nvidia and its youtube influencers pushed "8k" ready so much, even though current gen isn't remotely ready for 8k.
We live in exiting times.

Intel död, AMD just released their Zen 3 CPU's. Highest performance leap in a decade. Got goosebumps watching the live stream.
26% performance uplift in gaming to Zen 2, better than Intel. Available in November 5.

Plot twist:
Intel is the budget option now
AMD showed a radeon 6000 card which traded blows with the RTX 3080. There're 2 Navi21 SKUs, one that clocks up to 2050MHz and the other one with 2200MHz. If the shown one was the former then AMD will beat the shit out of the RTX 3090 as well.

If todays show was anything go about, it's the former. First AMD showed how they now beat Intel in gaming too, and everybody were just awe at the numbers. Then boom, it wasn't even their top CPU.Babun wrote:Plot twist:

I'm just happy to get cheap hardware come december. My 1080ti money is still set aside.

Re: PC Master Race
Yeah, double CU's and 20% more gaming clocks should more than double my 5700XT performance. And this possibly using 100W less power than Nvidia's toasters. No wonder Nvidia is going bonkers with their DLSS snakeoil, they're toast.Babun wrote:Check this out, ramonica:

If Big Navi is a slam dunk, AMD has at the same time CPU and GPU crown, and both consoles. Nvidia too was eventually caught sleeping with Monopoly, they should've reacted more aggressively when Zen was first introduced.

Weak argument, Nvidia won the launch race and therefore the hype race. I bet almost no one of those who bought the 3080 or 3090 are feeling down by the ADM releases.

Nvidia had paper launch, and it backfired awfully as a pr. And I'm sure they are hyped for lost 500$... Well they could still sell them now if necessary to scoop their money back. A lot of people canceled 3090 orders today.Art Morte wrote:Harmonica wrote:6800 579$ (3070+ 499$)

Their launch was shit, but they still got over the finish line first. Several weeks of talk, videos and builds with the Nvidia cards. The press has been all about Nvidia. I think it's great AMD are being so competitive to offer people choice, but winning that launch race is massive.

Re: PC Master Race
You've watched too much Nvidias "influencers". Word on biggest forums are really against Nvidia after their paper launch. They knew AMD would finally catch them, and they rushed the release, with crappy boards needing underclocking etc.Art Morte wrote:Harmonica wrote:Nvidia had paper launch, and it backfired awfully as a pr. Of course the people who are so invested in this stuff that post on the Internet about it go for the better cards in reasonable numbers... but they're a drop in the ocean when it comes to sales numbers and what regular people learn about these details. And what regular people have been learning is that "oh cool, new Nvidia gpus... and I heard AMD are releasing something later, but everyone's talking about these Nvidia cards, better get myself one."

The same could be said about AMD/Intel few years ago, now AMD is starting to dominate CPU sales. Even ignorant people will get the message eventually.Art Morte wrote:Of course the people who are so invested in this stuff that post on the Internet about it go for the better cards in reasonable numbers... but they're a drop in the ocean when it comes to sales numbers and what regular people learn about these details. Not the same with GPUs, gamers know GPU matters and limits the experience in most of the games. In CPUs, Intel could get away because the customers didn't care whether Excel or Microsoft Word loaded faster or slower..
Nvidia launch is still crap due to their cards not being available even in november. Proshop, one of the biggest retailers in scandinavia has got 260 RTX 3070 cards vs. 10000 orders
That won't happen with TSMC and AMD. Samsung 8nm has got serious yield issues. While most of their new cards aren't available Nvidia is thinking of releasing a RTX 3070 Ti which is again a cutdown of a GA102 with one third of the chip inactive(RTX 3090 chip). Imagine how bad the yield is if they can start a series where 33.33% of the chip isn't doing anything
I think their cards are going to be available next year when they fully migrate their designs to TSMC.

I'm going to get 6900XT on release and put it under water
There was a test on a German pc hardware site which I'm a member of (Igors Lab and PC games hardware extreme) where they clearly showed 8GB is not enough for the modern high end gaming. Most of the engines had stuttering issues or streamed low quality, low resolution textures when the system was out of VRAM. Textures don't cost any GPU-power at all but are the most important base for the visual quality. They demonstrated it on RTX 3070 and RTX 3080:
https://www.pcgameshardware.de/Geforce-RTX-3070-Grafikkarte-276747/Tests/8-GB-vs-16-GB-Benchmarks-1360672/
It means a RTX 3070 might produce more frames than a RX 6800 but the visual quality of those frames is going to be crap. Then why buy a strong GPU if you can buy a crap one and downgrade all of the settings? Nvidia's planned obsolescence for you.

Re: PC Master Race
I got a 2080 Ti at launch. I have a feeling I should keep it for another year or two before jumping the ship. I'll lose too much money otherwise without seeing a lot of benefit.
Re: PC Master Race
You will always lose money in computer parts, unless you buy at release and scalp them to who need them immediately. Or if something happens to the manufacturing, like earthquakes which destroyed memory factories in asia, and prices hiked for few years. Currently PSU's seem to be going up in prices, as people need bigger ones for the new graphics, and demand is high.
2080Ti was somewhat unfortunate, as it was probably the highest margin gaming GPU ever? Then again that's the price you pay if you want the best possible power. I'm probably going for 6800XT at release, and I'll probably need to pay 300-400€ to upgrade from my 5700XT, and I'll probably lose somewhere 100-150€ on whole.

Re: PC Master Race
As a PC gamer I accept losing money but not this much 6800XT at release is a good shout for you but it won't give me much performance increase over my current GPU.
Unfortunately I was building my rig at the wrong time. RTX 2000 series was just released and I couldn't make myself build a brand new PC with yesteryear's components (1080 Ti), so I just went with the 2080 Ti, even though I knew very well at the time it was the 'wrong' choice.
Oh well.

Your graphics card didn't become worse. 2080 Ti is still a top card. You've got the first part of my mentality, get the best product at the time of the purchase. The second part is to keep it until the performance isn't satisfactory anymore. 2080 Ti is a top card, don't think you'll need to backtrack the next 2-3years. Whatever you'll get in 2-3 years is going to outperform anything existing right now
