The Seventh Seal- This an oldie, but my favorite classic movie.

Honestly that is probably in order. Memento is my favorite movie of all time, just think there is no movie like it. Never have i ever felt that type of acceleration when watching a movie. In reruns you appreciate how clever and brilliant the movie is done, finding out things you missed on the first time, and able to analyze it and philosophically challenge you.

Barely watch movies, here's from the stuff I've watched:

The Green Mile - if you still haven't watched this one do yourself a favour and watch it ASAP, it's a long movie (approximately 3 hours) but boy are you in for an emotional wild ride. I actually teared up a bit after watching this and I'm hardly moved by any piece of media.

The Usual Suspects - Kevin Spacey. Enough said. such a shame he turned out to be a pedophile otherwise great actor.

Scarface - This one because i'm an Al Pacino fanboy and it's one of his all time classics.

Shawshank Redemption

The Departed

I do too.

I think GF2 might be my favorite movie of all time. I particularly loved young Vito's (Robert de Niro) rise, that was some of my favorite stuff in the book. The parallel of it with Michael's tenure was great as well.

Ooof great shout with the Pianist, I can see how it would have resonated with you.

I tried to keep my list as versatile as possible because I had Pianist, IG as you mentioned, as well as Schindlers list, Arrival and Contact (1997) on mine but would have been extreme personal bias from my end towards just a couple of subjects imo

Pretty much this Lucy. I loved Vito's story the most out of Godfather. I should try and watch them again one day just to refresh my memories of the films. But i remember quite clearly after i watched both a few years back that i loved 2 better.

1. Once Upon a Time in the West (Only perfect movie ever made, and also the only movie that I wont change in my top list, ever. Every other movie is suspectable for a change, as the mood changes.)

GF 2 is a great movie no doubt but in my opinion it's plot is more or less, watered down version of 1. What Brando did was absolutely phenomenal, best acting I have ever seen. De Niro never really struck a chord for me. No offence. Pacino was GOAT in both though. Also off topic but who do guys rate higher, Pacino or De Niro? Pacino all the way for me.

I first saw this thread this morning, but I didn't respond right away because I wanted to carefully think about my choices first.

And now after careful consideration, I realized that except for my favorite movie of all-time, all the remaining 4 movies in my top 5 are constantly changing, which means I can only give you my first pick since I'm pretty sure it will likely never change my whole life:

1. The Shawshank fucking Redemption (and I'll fight anybody who doesn't agree with me).

why? It's an observation on how most of your lists are weighted, and how there might be great movies out there beyond what is quite apparently a slightly limited scope for many

don't be offended, nothing wrong with any of this, and not with your list either

It’s all about emotional connections tbh. Most will have newer movies in any of their lists because what time in their lives they watched them and how they made them feel.

I love plenty foreign films from before 1975 etc. They just don’t resonate the same way.

I know at least me and ElG have watched plenty given following each others Letterboxd. So I think our lists being a lot alike is that we’re such a monotonous demographic. We’re all young dudebros really.

Funnily, among the many great Coen brothers movies, and Miller's Crossing might be my favourite, I actually liked Inside Llewelyn Davis very much too, even if it feels like it fell through the cracks of general praise and appreciation somehow.
So what I mean, nothing against your list.
