Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Norway were warned twice previously about that free-kick routine, yet still managed to not mark Bronze.
Any chance England have of winning this tournament will depend entirely on their attacking quality, because defensively they've been sloppy. They haven't conceded since the Scotland game, but that's been down to some good keeping and poor decision making from the opposition.
It worries me since we're going to have France or USA in the semi's, and those teams will absolutely punish us.
Part of the issue is that our midfield set-up is so attacking, it leaves our holding player isolated. Jill Scott has been excellent going forward, but between her, Kirby, and having two forwards on the flanks, it's leaving Walsh too much to do.
Kirby's form hasn't been great, so I think it'd be a good idea to drop her for Jade Moore in the next game, to stiffen the midfield.

I didn't watch the match, but I read an article on it in our largest newspaper. Seems like we made a lot of tactical mistakes, like fielding a makeshift fullback against one of your best players. There's always 4 years from now, I guess

Exciting game today, I think USA deserved to win with how they defended but it could have gone either way.
Can't see anyone but the USA winning it now.

I'd be down for an England win on Pens.

The Netherlands are through with two second-half goals.
England/USA and Netherlands/Germany would be great semi-finals.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
England going 442 tonight:
Telford; Bronze, Houghton, Bright, Stokes; Daly, Walsh, Scott, Mead; Parris, White
Meanwhile, no Rapinoe for the US. Press is starting instead. Speculation is that the US manager doesn't quite trust Rapinoe to track Lucy Bronze.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Full US squad - Naeher; Dunn, Dahlkemper, Sauerbrunn, O'Hara; Lavelle, Ertz, Horan; Press, Morgan (c), Heath
Rapinoe's an excellent attacker, but does not defend quite as well. Press is an absolute engine on the other hand and track better. She and Crystal Dunn are going to need to work in tandem to keep Lucy Bronze from influencing the game from that flank. I think we'll see 'Pinoe as an impact sub later on to run at England's backline.
This game is bound to be a memorable one. Both sides have the quality to beat the other.
Best of luck to your team, Jay.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
We've come as far as I thought we could, tbh. I think USA will edge tonight due to their know-how and endurance, but I expect we'll cause problems with Bronze on side and Mead on the other.
I hear there are going to be a lot more US fans in the ground than England fans, which is amazing considering England isn't exactly far away.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Probably a Brexit thing, I'm guessing.
Bronze really is the best RB in the world honestly. There are very few non-American players so good that they force us to change our lineup due to the threat they pose. Even with Press and Dunn on that flank, she's going to have her say on how this game goes.
With 'Pinoe out, eyes will be on Alex Morgan. Outside of the Thailand game, it's been the 'Pinoe show most of this tournament. Morgan's been playing injured for a good deal of it, but should be more fit today so she'll want to make her presence felt. Houghton is an excellent defender though so that battle should be good one.

Early impressions are that Heath has Stokes on toast, and Bright is looking very error prone.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
I was concerned that the US would control the game after they took the lead. Fortunately, Ellen White is deadly at the moment. She's turned into Jodie Taylor all of a sudden.
Showing my ignorance here, but this is the first time I've actually properly seen the USA in a while, and I really like the look of Lavelle. She's making clever runs into the half-spaces to make overloads on the right hand side.

I couldn't care less about women's world cup. The quality is worse than second division Peruvian league.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
On topic - That was a great half. England are still very much in this. Our CBs haven't quite been as solid when up against good center forwards and Mead is causing quite a few problems too as Bronze was getting doubled up on.
As for us, I'm glad Morgan got a goal in. She still doesn't look 100% fit, but the movement is there. Press is amazing and is easily one of the most underrated players in the women's game. Lavelle was just down right nasty with her dribbling and movement. Horan and Ertz have done well in the middle. Horan's passing range was on full display, raking some excellent balls over the top.

Re: 2019 Women's World Cup
Not a fan of this 442 tonight, really. The ball over the top has been read every time, and the ball into feet is just too difficult. We've tried to ping a pass right through the middle a few times and it hasn't worked.
Shows how important Bronze is to England's attack. She advances the ball up the pitch with her dribbling or serves as an outlet. If you keep her back in her half it really limits England's ability to get the ball forward.
