"Using Sergio Ramos at centre-back has proven to be a superb solution to the defensive issues," Valdano told El Larguero.

"He has done a great job, and we're talking about one of the best centre-backs in the world, in my opinion."

"I see it as a great honour that people are comparing me to Beckenbauer. He is one of the greatest players in history. He has set the standard for centre-backs and is a reference for me," Ramos was quoted as saying by Marca.

"I am very happy with the way things are going. I'm in great shape physically at the moment. It's a bit of a mixture of several things. I'm physically and mentally fine and have matured a lot both on and off the pitch."

Mourinho wrote:"I don't know if Ramos will play as a right back again. It all depends on circumstances and situations. It won't be a problem to have him in that position if we have many centres who are ready to play. He is doing a phenomenal job in the centre of defence."

I'm glad Mou agrees with us, Ramos should be the permanent CB eco smile

I wonder if Mou has any regrets about signing Carvalho on for another year. He did it just before Ramos began this wonderful transition. As it stands now, we have 3 reserve CBs (Carvalho, Albiol and Varane) not only for this year but for next as well. I know a lot of us (included myself) had said Albiol was useless and should go back to Valencia, but he is playing much better this year, and is getting a decent amount of playing time and seems to be happy. Varane is the one suffering with little playing time. This may be acceptable for this year, but it will be a crime if this continues into next year.

We could sell Carvalho next year, I don't see a problem. For now, I'm happy that Carvalho doesn't start anymore= one less reason for heart attacks eco smile

Looking forward to the many faces who don't think Ramos is quite up there as a CB.

In a few years Ramos will be hailed as one of the best defenders in Madrid

Against Valencia Sergio Ramos passed the 150 steals mark for the season and now currently stands on 160, 21 more than anyone else in Madrid.

Anyone notice the extra responsibility he's taking in defence.Apart from being individually brilliant this season he's tactically helping everyone and keeping them in check.....
