I have lots of hope in what Zidane will do / accomplish, but items such as these with his son shows we should be cautious with out faith!

His son is no where close to being a legitimate backup keeper. It ‘s fine if it’s the practice keeper! But alternative Lunin is also no where close as backup. He had a terrible year for a young prospect. Couldn’t win starter job at lowly Leganes and played in only 4 or 5 games. Club needs either Navas to remain or go and get a legit backup. If Zidane’s statements are essentially saying his son has as much chance as Lunin, that’s ok, but for god sake, someone should be saying we need a legit backup.

I feel the rest of club is shaping up quite well and it does seem as if Zidane and board (I hate saying board since in reality it’s Flo with some input from a few) are in sync.

Defence stays the same, with Militao taking 3rd CB spot, Nacho 4th, plus 3rd for laterals. Mendy coming to push Marcel

Midfield being totally revised with 1 to 2 new signings, Ndombele plus one of Pogba or Eriksen, plus Modric becoming rotational and Kroos probably out. Casemiro (if they play with only 2), Valverde and Isco as backups.

Front line has newcomers Hazard, Rodrygo, Jovic, plus holders Benzema, Vinicius, Lucas, either Asensio or Brahim, plus Isco. The only debate here is whether they also go for a RW.

So I don’t really see any conflict re Zidane unless he is so insistent on Pogba regardless of cost?

Bottom line if this warning to board is just about Nepotism with his son, then it’s a foolish warning!

Sports, Lucas is a squad player, should never be starter. That we can agree but he does add value as a 24th player! Luca on the other hand is fine as a 25th, i.e. practice GK. But you need a legit backup and he isn’t that. But in fairness neither is Lunin!

Luca is the 3rd keeper... I'm more worried about the 2nd keeper. Navas should stay. Lunin isn't ready. BUT, I think it's a question of money and ZZ would rather we spend the wages/fee on sale for areas of more need.

bar mourinho, in the last say 18/19 years, we haven't had a "if i can't do what i want with my team i'll leave" type of coach. and frankly, i like it. there's also a deeper meaning in that statement. there's accountability and everyone's on notice. we'll see how the market and the season going forward plays out. but at this stage we need toughness, not "i love the madrid anthem" schoolboy type of coaches

i'm not vested in the whole goalkeeper/luca thing, there's time to sort that situation out. we have more pressing matters to handle, and i hope zidane knows what he's doing in handling of those matters

sports, por favor, do not ever compare Lucas Vasquez to Luca Zidane, this is really an insult to Vasquez.

I know Vasquez is the butt end of jokes from madridistas from all around, but let's remember that he is a Castilla product who went in the deep waters of la Liga, earned a starting spot in a professional club at Espanyol and became such a key player for them that we thought wise to bring him back. Lucas earned every single minutes of his playtime in Madrid on the pitch, doing what's required doing the dirty work, and being good. Yes he is limited, no one will remember him like a premier player but he is an accomplished player who serviced us in some of our biggest champions league matchups, well.

Luca Zidane has literally done nothing. His blunders playing for Castilla are iconic, the number of them is ridiculous over the past two years. He is a mediocre keeper. If he wants to play for us, he should go out on loan, and earn that shit on the pitch like everyone. That's it.

On the subject of keepers, I hope Keylor won't find a new club and will stay, his 5 mil net wages are prohibitive for many clubs, specially given his age and mixed reputation.

Leganés stand yo lose their starting keeper and want to keep Lunin, who is likely to start for them.

This is the scenario I want: Courtois starts; back up Keylord; Castilla keeper is 3rd GK (Belman is better than Luca); Lunin plays for Leganés; Luca Zidane goes out to prove himself

I don’t think I’ve said anything different Sports, that neither Luca nor Lunin are ready to be backup. Where we disagree is that Luca has talent! Have you seen him play at Castilla? Or viewed the “ turn away from shot” video that Nick posted?

Also disagree with Casilla. We need someone like him if Navas does leave.

I've see Luca Zidane at youth NT levels in France. He has talent. A lot of it.
