Awards Season 2019
Not sure anyone cares, but some nice winners
Main Man Rami Malek winning best actor
Main Man Viggo helping Green Book get best comedy
Main series The Americans getting the recognition it deserves
Absolutely shocked Amy Adams didn't win best actress for TV, but haven't watched Escape at Dannemora. Also shocked Elisabeth Moss didn't win her category.
Also wtf Gaga was actually nominated for playing herself?
Anyways full list:

Re: Awards Season 2019
Really surprised by the Bohemian Rhapsody win, thought it was a shit movie going by the reviews.
All I really care for this awards season is Amy Adams winning for her role in Sharp Objects and ROMA winning.

Re: Awards Season 2019
Paula Clarkson winning for her role as Amy Adams' mother in Sharp Objects just seemed right. That was a powerhouse performance.
Unfortunate that Jodie Comer got far less recognition than Sandra Oh in Killing Eve given they were both excellent.
Loved that Richard Madden won for Bodyguard as well. He was excellent.

Re: Awards Season 2019
By far the most egregious wins I’ve ever seen in any awards show.
Malek is bad as Mercury. The movie is bad and shits on his entire legacy by framing him as the bad guy. Shame on the HFPA for being a joke as always.
Also Malek gave the worst speech I’ve ever seen. Guy is where charisma goes to die.

ffs what sacrilege is this. With posts like these RG will never come back.
ps didn't watch the movie, but Malek is solid in Mr Robot, and I think critics generally liked his performance

Well, Christian Bale was born to British parents and spent the first 10 years of his life living in Wales, so I don't see how it's unreasonable to call him Welsh I suppose the context matters.

Well. All that’s really needed is that he feels English and has an English accent (when he puts in on. Sounds like my cockney impression) and is born to English parents.
Guy has probably never lived anywhere since his memory formed. He’s been traveling for acting all his life. Price you have to pay to become that good of an actor. Seems like all the greats have followed that same route actually. Incredible how many started out as child stars.

Then they nominated Green Book to balance it out.

Neither of them should be anywhere near the category but then it's a very average year for films.

On its own?
Nah. Can't possibly see the reasoning for that at all.
Only way to love that movie is because of the characters that have been built up through previous movies.
When there is a 20 movie requirement to truly enjoy something it simply isn't fit for award shows at all.
Doubt a lot of the people in the academy are MCU fanboys to that degree.
If there are superhero films with legit arguments for best picture nominations it's probably Spider-Man and Black Panther. Can't see anyone validly argumenting for Infinity War here.

I'm not saying Infinity War should be in, I mean we all know why Black Panther made it, but Infinity War is definitely better than Black Panther.

Because it's American? Both audiences and critics liked Black Panther more. By every known metric actually.
I really don't see anything problematic about Black Panther, but hey if superhero boys wants to tear something down when they've not seen any of the other movies here (not saying you here).
Only award I was afraid Black Panther would get was the visual effects one, which it definitely didn't deserve.
I thought Black Panther was better than both Blackkklansman and Bohemian Rhapsody. And I doubt I'm going to think Green Book is better after watching the trailer, where a white person tells a black guy how he's supposed to act to be black.
This is Crash all over again.
Also. I guess the #MeToo era is over since Bohemian Rhapsody was nominated. Really hope someone at the award show adresses this. It's so fucking despicable that everyone has been silent about this.

Neither was I insinuating that BP should not have made the list, I was just saying Infinity War was the better movie in every regard imo.
And yea it is better than Green Book and Blackkklansman

Personally think both Hereditary and MI6 10 times the film Black Panther is. can't comment on. Although no reason why BP couldn't have made it over few others in the list that looks trash

It's really a weak list I agree. I'm still amazed, not shocked, but amazed. It shows how old white men are still a problem in these award races.

MI6 was my #1 of the year so far but action has never gotten any credit at all.

No money to campaign. Doubt anyone saw it.
It costs money to get an Oscar.
Netflix spent $30m on their Oscar campaign for Roma alone.
